About the OfS
We are the independent regulator of higher education in England. Our primary aim is to ensure that English higher education is delivering positive outcomes for students – past, present, and future.

About the role
The Risk and Audit committee is an established committee of the board. It supports the board and the OfS accounting officer by advising on the comprehensiveness and reliability of the processes relating to corporate governance, risk management and internal control within the OfS.

The committee oversees the management of strategic and corporate risk at the OfS and seeks assurance on current and emerging risks. This includes carrying out “deep dives” into key risks. The committee continues to promote improvements to the management framework in line with the developing needs of the organisation. The committee also supports the OfS board in its own discussions on risk and risk appetite.

About you
You will bring extensive experience of risk and assurance processes, and internal control processes. You will have experience of working in high-level multi-disciplinary groups or non-executive roles and you will be able to provide an appropriate level of scrutiny and challenge to the executive. You might have a qualification and experience in financial auditing or accounting.

Remuneration
Committee members are expected to attend at least four meetings each year.  Committee members are paid £300 for each meeting attended, plus travel expenses and subsistence (within OfS guidelines). This rate is subject to periodic review by the OfS.

Working with us
The OfS regulates the higher education sector on behalf of all students. We value diversity and the wealth of perspectives, experience and ideas that it brings to our work, and we strive to embed equality of opportunity in everything we do.

We recruit based on fair and open competition and welcome applications from candidates regardless of age, disability, race and ethnicity, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and socio-economic background.

Application process
The closing date for applications is Sunday 7th January 2024.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an online interview on Thursday 1 or Friday 2 February 2024.

Successful applicants will be appointed as independent members of our Risk and Audit Committee.
