This role is part of our International Institutions and Donor Assurance (IIDA) works closely with global institutions such as UN agencies, the European Commission, Foundations and other Development Agencies, particularly those involved in international development. IIDA provides assurance services, including financial and systems audits, certifications, internal control assessments, technical assistance, and consultancy services to international institutions

You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

In this role you will be focussed on supporting our fast-growing team of specialists who support grant-making trusts and charitable foundations, be they attached to high-net-worth individuals, multinational corporations, or established with a historic endowment. This team is already well-established, holding contracts with some of the world’s largest foundations.

You’ll be involved in the development and implementation of our strategy for responsible, profitable growth with respect of work delivered for foundations and trusts. Account management of key foundations (based predominantly in North America and Europe), building positive, collaborative relationships with key focal points (typically those charged with overseeing internal audit, risk and compliance areas within the foundation). This role manages the delivery of new and / complex assignments, including designing appropriate responses to non-conventional terms of reference, writing tailored work programmes, and designing bespoke reporting formats.

You’ll be someone with

  • A detailed knowledge of grant audit issues and techniques
  • Specific experience of working for large, grant-making foundations and/or charitable trusts and/or knowledge of the sector would be an advantage
  • A professional accountancy qualification (ACA / ACCA / DEC / CIMA or equivalent)
  • Demonstrable professional audit experience
  • A broad range of staff planning and supervision experience
  • An ability to communicate in a professional, constructive, and respectful manner
  • Strong written English skills
  • A genuine interest in international development and working in a multi-cultural context
