Description
The Hanover County Department of Internal Audit is seeking a highly motivated self-starter who wants to join a small local government audit shop built on a culture of learning from each other and helping each other succeed. The successful incumbent will have a high level of experience in analytical and critical thinking with the ability to review and assess business and management processes. This position offers limited telework availability.
General Description: This is a professional position. The incumbent performs complex tasks to audit operations and activities of the County, Schools and other agencies.
Organization: The Internal Auditor position is part of Hanover County's Career Development Program (CD). The Internal Auditor Ladder has four (4) levels ranging from Internal Auditor I to Internal Auditor Senior. Incumbents report to the Director of Internal Audit and supervise no staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires demonstrated analytical skills. Must have excellent communications skills, both oral and written. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, Outlook) preferred. Knowledge of Government Auditing Standards, Internal Auditing Standards, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards/Principles, and current business practices, desired.
Education, Experience and Training: Bachelor's degree with concentration in accounting or business-related field required with accounting or auditing experience preferred - OR - Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. Higher levels on the Career Ladder require additional education and experience including Certified Public Accountant and/or Auditing Professional Certification (CIA, CISA, CGAP) required for Internal Auditor Senior level.
Special Conditions:
• Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting
• Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License
• Twelve-month probationary period
• Work beyond normal work schedule

- Evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of the use of County resources and service levels provided.
- Performs internal audits, special projects, investigations, and information technology audits, including use of audit software as assigned.
- Develops audit objectives and program testing to execute the internal audit plan.
- Summarizes audit results and communicates effectively with all levels of County employees.
- May Provide assistance to external auditors.
- Performs related work as assigned.
