Job Description

Working within a Dynamic and modern sub-LOB finance function, the candidate must be comfortable with a rapidly changing and growing business environment.  There are many processes to be built and developed and there is an opportunity to grow with the team.  The business is very inclusive, forward thinking and you would be part of daily stand ups with the team and true partners to the product owners & developers.  The successful applicant will be based in London and part of a flat organizational structure with a significant number of senior stakeholders.

International Consumer Bank Finance & Business Management covers several functions including P&A, Product & Financial Control, business management and certain LOB style treasury roles.  There has also been significant M&A activity in the group and project work in relation to new product and market development. 

The primary focus of this role is IFRS 9/CECL retail implementation specialist under the ICB Controller function. This position is within the ICB Controller team, responsible for building out the businesses IFRS 9 implementation across various Retail Products.

F&BM operates as an agile and cross-functional area and the successful candidate will be required to flex their skill set to support the wider teams as required.  The role will be varied and often moving at pace, no day is the same in ICB.  It is an exciting business and work environment, and the candidate should expect and be able to work under pressure.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strong understanding of IFRS 9 rules and the implementation thereof within the context of industry norms and Regulatory expectations.
  • Input towards the end-to-end operating model of IFRS 9 implementation, including steering committee and governance over assumptions, building out Effective Interest Rate model approach.
  • Partnership with Risk function and a deep understanding of the assumptions and accounting rules applied in IFRS 9 modelling and at a Firmwide level, CECL modelling.
  • analysis and financial reporting related to credit risk on retail products.
  • Partnering closely with Risk and P&A teams in the analytical review of expected credit losses, which includes analysis of key business drivers, assessment of model outputs, and leveraging data to support qualitative estimates, which are then summarized in financial reporting and quarterly memos.
  • Active participation in the monthly close, quarterly earnings release, regulatory reporting and financial disclosures related to credit risk. 
  • drive infrastructure that would enhance analytical review and financial reporting and strengthen the controls surrounding these processes.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • IFRS 9 retail product implementation SME, deep understanding of and experience in IFRS 9 (and CECL) accounting standards and application to retail products
  • Experience with international retail portfolios, particularly in UK and US
  • Relevant experience in finance/accounting/LEC/regulatory reporting/products, CPA/CA/ACCA or relevant accountancy qualification, Superior IFRS (and US GAAP) accounting acumen
  • Self-motivated self-starter, strong initiative to drive a project from start to completion and superior work ethic; ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical acumen, with ability to understand, produce and explain income statement and balance sheet content and variances
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to deep dive on processes/issues and improve controls/efficiencies, intellectually curious, proactive, action-oriented, and results-driven
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to prepare executive level presentations
