My client is a large Public Sector organisation with a UK wide reach.

Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic individual to join our organisation as the Head of Management Accounts. As the Head of Management Accounts, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of our large public sector organisation. You will lead a team of over 25 staff members, with 4 direct reports, and play a crucial role in providing accurate and timely financial information for decision-making at all levels of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Leadership and Team Management:

    • Manage and lead a team of over 25 staff members, including 4 direct reports, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and continuous professional development.
    • Set clear objectives, monitor performance, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
    • Identify training needs and provide appropriate training opportunities to enhance the team's capabilities.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis:

    • Oversee the development and implementation of financial planning processes and procedures.
    • Prepare and present financial reports, including budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses, to senior management and key stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with other departments to gather financial data, analyse trends, and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
    • Monitor and report on financial performance against budgets and targets, identifying areas of concern and recommending corrective actions.
  • Management Accounting:

    • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organisation's management accounting systems and processes.
    • Develop and implement appropriate controls to safeguard financial assets and comply with regulatory requirements.
    • Review and approve financial transactions, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
    • Provide guidance and support to the team in areas such as cost analysis, pricing, and profitability assessment.
  • Stakeholder Management:

    • Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on financial matters.
    • Collaborate with senior management and department heads to provide financial insights and recommendations.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with auditors, regulatory bodies, and other external partners.
    • Communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and improve the accuracy of financial reporting.
    • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes, ensuring compliance and driving continuous improvement.
    • Drive the implementation of new financial systems or software to enhance the organisation's financial capabilities.

  • Profile

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA) is highly desirable.
    • Proven experience in management accounting, financial planning, and analysis, preferably in a large public sector organisation or a large complex commercial business.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
    • In-depth knowledge of financial accounting principles, regulations, and best practices.
    • Proficiency in financial software and advanced MS Excel skills.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

    Job Offer

    hybrid working - 1 day a week at a UK site (there are a number spread throughout the UK)

    6 months, potentially longer.

    Salary negotiable
