Assistant Accountant – Cash Accounting

Job Title: Assistant Accountant - UK Cash Accounting

Reports To: Finance Accountant

Summary of Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a part qualified accountant to join a dynamic finance team supporting the Next business. Located within our Leicestershire Head Office, our Cash Accounting team is responsible for delivering finance support to key stakeholders across the business for a variety of purposes including;

• Producing insightful reporting for key Business Stakeholders
• Cash flow monitoring and 3rd party management
• Supporting systems projects to deliver customer improvements
• Analysis of new payment options performance
• Supporting the onboarding of new Next Total Platform partners

About You

Next is a dynamic and fast growing business, to succeed in this role you must be happy in a fast-moving, fluid, ever-changing environment.  You will need a mixture of solid financial / management accounting skills, coupled with financial analysis to maintain core financial controls, support Key Stakeholders and business initiatives.

You are ideally someone who thinks about the impact on the Customer and wider Business, a person that above all values the need for procedure, control and auditability.

Working as an integral part of our cash accounting team, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for supporting our Total Platform business.

Key Responsibilities

1.   Finance Management

• Responsibility for all store payments for Total Platform Partner stores
• Ownership of tender reconciliations c.£60m p.a 
• Daily reconciliation of store cash received (c.£11m p.a) to ensure cash discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner

2.   Cost Management 

• Review and validation of invoiced charges in line with contracted rates
• Ensure costs are accurately accrued each month

3.   Analysis and reporting

• Provide daily / weekly reporting around key cash KPIs to support Retail Field Team to address any issues
• Support Total Platform Partner with any ad hoc queries

4.   Business Support

• Assist all TP Partners with any reconciliation issues 
• Work with Loss Prevention to reduce cash losses
• To be reactive and flexible in response to issues and new developments in a fast growing and high profile area of the business

What we are looking for

• A proactive Part qualified accountant CIMA/ACCA/ACA with proven experience of working in a large company
• The ability to work productively, efficiently and effectively, maintaining attention to detail and quality
• Strong problem solving skills and the ability to think outside the box
• Ability to self motivate in a fast pace challenging and demanding environment with changing                                                                                                        priorities
• Proven ability to plan and prioritise workloads whilst working to strict deadlines
• Can effectively communicate both orally and in writing and have the ability to influence and constructively challenge
• Strong control skills
• Exceptional working knowledge of MS Office (esp. MS Excel) suite of products, Google G Suite is desirable
• SQL & Microsoft SSMS is experience is desirable
