Finance Manager, Commercial Capex

If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you as our Finance Manager, Commercial Capex, based in Bristol.

BT will be investing around £5bn per year in its capital programs, making it one of the largest capex investors in the UK. These investments are vital to our strategy of achieving integrated network leadership, providing a differentiated customer experience, and transforming our cost base.

The purpose of this role is to support the development of a value-creating, fundable investment strategy while ensuring consistent performance reporting to key stakeholders.

You will be part of a high-profile Group FP&A/Commercial Finance team, which offers an excellent opportunity to influence BT's investment management strategy. The team's goal is to deliver our financial plans and maximize returns on investments across the Group through prioritised capital allocation.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Provide value-added analysis and insights to support the delivery of our Capex financial plans and maximise returns on investment across the Group.
  • Support the development of a new annual strategic capital allocation framework.
    • Assist in transforming the capex allocation process.
    • Contribute to improving capex prioritization capabilities to optimise investment returns.
    • Support the analysis of capex financial plans to establish a link between investment programmes and the benefits they deliver.
    • Coordinate capex prioritisation activities.
  • Take ownership of processes and activities related to monthly results/outlooks, quarterly external reporting, and the annual medium-term plan.
    • Establish lean processes that cover all formal capex activities, leveraging SAP capabilities for automation of standard outputs.
    • Provide timely and insightful capex performance updates for briefing the BT Investment Board.
    • Support our Customer Facing Units in delivering capex numbers accurately and on time.
    • Drive capex data improvement by sharing the latest developments and best practices with capex teams.
  • Act as a business partner to Group Reporting, Investor Relations, and Regulatory teams.
    • Provide insight into capex performance to ensure consistent messaging regarding business drivers, risks, and opportunities.
  • Act as a Business Partner to Group Strategy.
    • Regularly interface with key Group stakeholders, providing analysis that supports the formulation of Group strategy.


You'll have the following skills & experience

  • Financial analysis and insights - You seek to identify business performance drivers by understanding the link between operational activities and financial performance.
  • SAP and data analytics - You leverage SAP capabilities to drive process improvement and automation. And identify opportunities to use data analytics to make better decisions. You deliver process, systems, or tool changes to improve our data analytics capability.
  • Performance planning and controlling - You understand the principles surrounding formulation of financial plans, and design and implement activities needed to control on target delivery of our plans.
  • Business partnering and consulting - You proactively establish constructive working relationships with stakeholders and build a rapport to become a trusted advisor. You understand their wider business challenges to help them achieve their objectives.
  • Be agile - You manage and implement improvements to the work environment and ways of working. You implement collaborative working practices and continuous improvement.
