About this role Openreach is recruiting for a Business Partnering and Commercial Finance Manager to join our London, Bristol or Birmingham office on a permanent basis offering flexible hybrid working. The Chief Engineer team lead on the Fibre First Rural build, BDUK, LFFN, R100 and provide support to our other operational teams with expert opinion and advice around network policy and industry leading innovation. They also drive the completion of complex, difficult, or high priority network build and fix activities.

The role is at the centre of the largest strategic investment in BT Group, that of delivering Full Fibre across the country, and specifically within Rural areas, working closely with the business to deliver innovative solutions to enable fibre deployment in often remote locations. This is an ideal introduction to Openreach, enabling the role holder to learn the dynamics of the business at the heart of the Group strategy, offering the opportunity to influence key business decisions and the experience of being part of one of the biggest infrastructure programmes in the UK while working as part of the wider Openreach Chief Engineer Finance Team.

This role is a critical financial business partnering role, providing lead financial support to your assigned Fibre First rural regions and ultimately ensuring that the teams work within their opex and capex budgets.

Key responsibilities
• Owning the partnering relationship for their assigned regions and as such working hand-in hand with their respective Regional Directors. This will include, but not limited to attending regional team meetings (presenting the regions financials/forecasts and enforcing the financials controls), as well as being out in the field adhoc (understanding the key operational issues being faced)
• Responsible for supporting Fibre First Steering Group deliverables on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Work closely with the CE Central Capex controller team, and this includes attending and contributing to the month end reporting/analysis process.
• The role holder will be expected to support their regions in driving the maximum THP delivery within their financial budgets (increased productivity at the lowest CPP)
• Business partner with sub-units within the CFU / CU to provide financial insights to inform strategic decision making for the Rural deployment across the Region. This will be predominantly with our FND & Infrastructure Development Finance colleagues.
• Responsible for providing analysis and delivering insight that links financial reports to business strategies, providing effective commercial procedures, and key accounting judgements
• Improve understanding and impact of financial reporting on performance of the business unit based on key financial KPIs (Critical metrics being GCPP & NCPP across our regions and as a unit

Key skills required
• Qualified accountant
• Experience of positively influencing business performance by using data, commentary and analysis to inform decision making.
• Strategic thinker with proven experience driving daily concepts to deliver longer term vision with the ability to cut through barriers to bring real clarity and focus to delivering for our customers
• Pragmatic team player, adept at holding others to account through a challenging and supportive leadership style, whilst consistently delivering on their own commitments
• An ability to matrix-manage cross-business teams to complex and multi-phase solutions (across technology, commercial, product and process design, network design and build).
• Advisor and coach to others both within own team and elsewhere, formulates their operational guidelines or in-depth knowledge and advises on specialist area
• Financial authority on new business opportunities and investments. Personally accountable for all business unit costs/revenue performance and business results
• A true customer champion, with an ability to truly influence customer experience, demonstrating real customer empathy in everything they do
