Indirect Tax Compliance Specialist

Purpose of role: Responsible for co-ordination and review of all sales tax/VAT returns and other indirect tax compliance within Primark Group

Location: Dublin Head Office

Reports to: Indirect Tax Compliance Manager

Key Responsibilities:

This role creates an opportunity for a proactive, ambitious, and commercially aware Indirect Tax Compliance Specialist at Primark Headquarters, Dublin.

Indirect Tax Compliance

  • Responsible for coordinating and reviewing indirect tax returns and statistical returns across all markets.
  • Responsible for ensuring all sales tax/VAT payments/refunds are paid/received in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with external advisors in ensuring timely and accurate completion of all indirect tax compliance obligations.
  • Regular review of team processes to identify efficiency opportunities and implement improvements.
  • Prepare for and assist the Indirect Tax Advisory manager in any local sales tax audits.
  • Involvement in specific indirect tax project work e.g., new entity/jurisdiction roll-out. On-boarding of indirect tax compliance in all jurisdictions to Primark's compliance tool.

Reporting

  • Responsible for ensuring all sales tax/VAT is posted accurately.
  • Responsible for sales tax/VAT balance sheet reconciliations.

Other:

  • Support the Indirect Tax Compliance manager in leading the Indirect Tax Compliance team of up to 6 people.
  • Support with the training and development of the Indirect tax compliance team.
  • Working with Primark colleagues and external advisors to enhance systems to meet compliance requirements.
  • Ad hoc involvement with Indirect Tax planning and advisory projects for the Primark group.

Education and Training:

  • Have accounting and/or tax qualification (CTA, ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent) - Preferred requirement.
  • Experience reviewing and preparing sales tax/VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions and coordinating the process.
  • US indirect tax experience a plus

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Commercial awareness with ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of wider business factors.
  • Strong people skills - who can day to day support the management of the team.
  • Interest in keeping up to date with changes in sales tax/VAT law & practice.
  • Excellent analytical skills required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience working with Oracle, an advantage.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to work to deadlines.
  • English is essential.
