In a rapidly changing and evolving landscape, businesses across the globe are operating in more uncertain times that ever before.  Businesses need to grow, develop and transform while managing risks – ideally in an efficient and data driven way. We assist our clients to understand, manage and monitor their risks in a holistic manner to help them grow and achieve their strategic objectives. Risk consulting can play a critical role in supporting organisations to protect and enhance within their business.

Accordingly, the primary focus of this role would be to strengthen the Risk Advisory Services (RAS) capability by taking advantage of risk consulting opportunities across Australian business landscapes.

This position will work with clients across a wide variety of sectors, driving the growth of the practise that is very much in demand given the increased risk management focus of many Australian organisations, both in public and private sectors.

As a Director in our RAS team, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Growing the risk consulting practise in Melbourne while working with the National BDO RAS teams
  • Work with Partners to ensure revenue and profitability is being optimised
  • Leading client engagements and acting as a key contact and relationship owner with senior stakeholders to maintain strong relationships
  • Negotiating with senior client stakeholders, facilitating complex workshops, reviewing reports and take full responsibility for the final deliverables
  • Assisting Partners to grow the risk consulting capability and capacity which includes hiring, managing and developing team members
  • Drive continuous improvement of current business practises, tool and methodologies
  • Industry insight development

This is a full-time opportunity that requires a high level of professional autonomy focused on delivering outcomes for clients and building the capability of the BDO team.  

What you’ll need to succeed:

Ideally you have over 8 years’ experience gained in professional services, you’re passionate to work with clients and keen to grow the practice. Your background in risk consulting as well as your expertise in all areas of risk process, strategy and governance across a wide range of sectors will be viewed favourably.  Candidates with extensive experience in External Audit gained within a consulting environment are also highly encouraged to apply.

To ensure your continued success, you’ll need:

  • A strong internal drive, a growth mindset and aspirations for leadership opportunities
  • An interest and ability to create and enhance frameworks, methods, and toolkits to support delivery of client engagements
  • A genuine desire to mentor and support others and commitment to building capability within the BDO Team and clients
  • Strong business leadership skills (with Partnership potential) across dimensions like strategy, client and people management, business operations and financial acumen
  • Significant experience in presenting to Executive management, Boards and ARCs
  • A natural business development aptitude with evidence of existing network of decision makers and an ability to engage client, convert opportunities and grow the risk consulting practise
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Certifications or qualifications relevant to the role (CA, CPA, MBA, etc.) will be looked upon favourably
