The role will proactively business partner the Argos Operational leadership team, Central Retail teams and other retail stakeholders, providing insightful analysis, challenge and influence to drive decisions and actions that improve the performance of Argos stores and ultimately the bottom line. The role holder will support the Finance Managers and Head of Finance to enable informed and effective commercial decisions and maximise value creation.

What you need to do
  • Act as key Finance Business Partner for the Argos Retail team interpreting financial performance to provide insight, analysis and commentary to stakeholders and providing challenge to the business
  • Provide pro-active support and analysis, actively highlighting where improvements can be made to your stakeholders
  • Build, manage and maintain strong relationships with our internal stakeholders, being the Retail Operational teams and the relevant Finance teams, whilst maintaining the ability to influence and challenge constructively
  • Work with the Retail Reporting team to ensure timely insight and financial reports, raising challenges as required but also providing support
  • Support performance reviews, highlighting anomalies, changes or items to be investigated. Act on decisions to close gaps in actual financial performance versus target collaborating with Retail colleagues and developing reporting or analysis to support this
  • Support the preparation of plans and budgets reviewing performance deviations and advising on required future corrective actions to the Head of Finance and Finance Managers
  • Provide support to ensure any Latest views and Period end processes are completed in an accurate and timely manner, therefore aiding the delivery of financial forecasts
  • Supporting in the creation of periodic finance meeting packs, providing insightful analysis that drives action
  • Complete ad hoc / bespoke analysis and reporting for the business area as required to drive improvements
  • Supporting several ad hoc projects and various teams as required during busy times such as Peak, Year End, Budget, Corporate Plan etc.
  • Support the development of uniform reporting and performance evaluation across all Retail channels enabling your business partners to quickly establish their areas of focus through the Channel, Cost/Revenue line and Geographic lenses.
  • Spend regular time in store to build operational knowledge, ensuring analysis is as robust and business focused as possible
What you need to know and show
  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA) or studying towards qualification
  • Strong Excel and numerical skills, with an aptitude for turning data into analysis and insight (experience in using SQL is helpful but not essential)
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Good track record of strong financial control, but also the ability maintain such an environment
  • A desire to achieve best in class business partnering - holding the business to account while striving to support success with demonstrable energy and determination
  • Effective communicator with all levels of stakeholders, including audiences of varying financial and commercial acumen
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and a bility to present complex information in a simplified manner
  • Self-motivated team player, able to work autonomously and prioritise with good problem-solving skills
  • Must have a strong eye for detail and a passion for accuracy
What decisions can I make
  • Application of Finance principles, guiding our non-Finance business partners on the proper application and impact
  • Application of appropriate judgement in work of an ambiguous or complex nature
