Make an impact with our Tax Services team as a Senior Accountant. This diverse team of professionals delivers customized tax strategies within a complex and dynamic regulatory framework. As a trusted advisor, you’ll design solutions for clients that meet compliance and reporting requirements, minimize risk, drive efficiencies and maximize returns.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver industry and technical expertise in taxation through client interactions, reports, technical work, management presentations and the creation of high quality deliverables
  • Participate in the development and completion of proactive tax and reorganization strategies for clients to make effective use of business opportunities and ensure businesses run effectively
  • Planning, preparation of reorganization instructions and client deliverables, and prepare election forms required in corporate reorganizations
  • Research client issues that arise from compliance or planning work using a variety of sources
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs
  • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, and deadlines
  • Think strategically about client needs by understanding their business and key risks
  • Identify ways to maximize the relationship with clients and deliver added value
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
  • Correspond with team members and clients in response to specific personal or corporate tax queries or regarding matters that arise from compliance or planning work
  • Development of tax knowledge through research, reading and technical reviews
  • Maintain high quality control in the preparation and review of compliance returns for individuals, trusts, corporations and partnerships
  • Liaise with Canada Revenue Agency and relevant provincial ministries on clients’ taxation issues
  • Monitor project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary; advise supervisors and clients of project status and seek clarification on discrepancies where applicable
  • Liaise and correspond professionally with clients, colleagues and the firm leadership team
  • Develop a thorough understanding of MNP’s services, businesses and industry
  • Promote regular attendance, balanced lifestyle and high standard of team wellness
  • Attend internal MNP courses to further developtax knowledge

Skills and Experience

  • Completion of the Cumulative Final Exam (CFE) or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Enrollment in or completion of Level 1 and 2 of the In-Depth Tax Program
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in public accounting and/or tax consulting
  • Solid knowledge of and experience working in Canadian Tax
  • Solid understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles
  • Experience working with accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Profile, TaxPrep, TaxCycle or Profile
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Some travel may be required
