Description
Accounting and Regulatory Policy (Policy) is a global function within Finance which supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by providing independent advisory and review services in relation to matters of Accounting and Basel-based Regulation for a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. As a result of this focus, Policy plays a key role in client advisory activities and major Firm projects, helping to shape and influence the future strategy of the Firm.
Following a recent expansion of team scope and responsibilities, a Director (AVP/Manager equivalent) opportunity has arisen within the Glasgow Policy team, which operates as a centre of excellence for the global Policy team. The role will specifically focus on Accounting Policy, providing the opportunity to be at the forefront of developments in accounting impacting entities reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), US GAAP and UK GAAP.

What will you be doing?
- You will play a key role in Morgan Stanley Global Accounting Policy Management, working with senior stakeholders in the US and EMEA.
- You will provide advisory support to our global Finance colleagues, supporting the global legal entity controllers and producing the Morgan Stanley IFRS Model Financial Statements.
- You will help execute the team's global accounting horizon scanning process, including monitoring of sources, technical review of new publications and communication to subject matter experts (SMEs) and Firm stakeholders.
- You will develop SME knowledge on key areas of accounting, have the opportunity to work alongside cross-functional teams on major Firm implementation projects, and assist with the resolution of ad-hoc advisory queries from internal stakeholders.
- You will be involved in helping to train our internal stakeholders on technical matters, including key accounting updates identified through the team's horizon scanning process.
What we’re looking for:
- Strong communication skills, including ability to communicate technical material to various levels of experience/knowledge both in written and verbal form.
- An interest in working in a fast-paced environment, often balancing multiple high priority deliverables.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial reporting under IFRS, US GAAP and/or UK GAAP and a keen desire to develop SME knowledge in these areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills that will help you in the role:
- Qualified CA/CPA/ACCA or equivalent.
- The ability to work independently in a self-directed way in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Prior experience of working in a financial services environment
