OCM operates in the following main Caribbean territories: Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Grenada and St. Lucia. At present, we are seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join our Finance Team.
Assistant Accountant - Job Summary
The Assistant Accountant will provide support in the administration of the Finance Department. This includes performing various accounting functions, and supervising and coordinating the activities of staff in support of the realization of stated objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists in formulating, establishing and maintaining systems and procedures.
- Assists in supervising and coordinating the activities of the department.
- Ensures that queries and correspondence are expeditiously and appropriately handled
- Coordinates with other Departments to facilitate the execution of accounting functions.
- Ensures compliance with established corporate policies and procedures in accounting matters.
- Prepares job costings and calculates and prepares VAT returns.
- Reconciles accounts and prepares bank reconciliation.
- Prepares monthly divisional financial statements and variance reports.
- Assists in the preparation of annual budgets
- Ensures effective control and processing of documents
- Prepares year end reconciliations and audit schedules
- Maintains efficient records and filing system
- Maintains confidential information
Qualifications and Skills:
- Pursuing ACCA Level (3) or equivalent qualification
- At least five (5) years relevant experience
- Sound knowledge of accounting practices and procedures
- Knowledge of research methods and report preparation techniques
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong planning, organisation and execution skills
- Attentive to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work successfully in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
