Business Analysis provides world class services to application development and enhancement projects. As a Business Analyst, you will identify and define the business needs of their clients and stakeholders whilst helping to determine solutions to meet business needs or resolve business problems. The role may be part of an IT project development environment or an individual contributor at the business interface.

You will work as part of a global team in the IDT (Information & Digital Technology) organization. IDT drives business value through providing world class technical, functional, and consulting expertise to deliver the right skills, at the right time.

You would bring your business analysis and domain skills to join our IT team in the UK working as one team together with other Shell IT hubs globally (Bangalore, Houston, Netherlands).

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will support the Shell Energy business working in projects for Shell's Nature & Environmental Solutions business. This covers Shell's Nature Based Solutions (NBS) team that generates voluntary carbon offsets and the Environmental Products Trading Business that covers both voluntary and regulated carbon products. This is a hugely exciting space and an opportunity to work in an area key to both Shell and society meeting our energy transition goals. What's the role?

Working as a business analyst and subject matter expert of the Nature & Environmental solutions businesses. You would be responsible for the identification and documentation of business requirements, working with technical teams to determine feasible solution options. You would actively manage the requirements through the end-to-end solution delivery lifecycle to developing handover and expertise to the support team.

Your role will vary depending on your project(s), typically you would perform the following day to day activities:
  • Responsible for the execution of the project(s) business analysis tasks using appropriate methods, tools, and technology.
  • Responsible for assuring functional design, resolves technical design issues and is accountable for solution design decision making.
  • Become a product SME, developing a position as trusted advisor.
  • Ability to coach and mentor wider business analysis team - playing a key role in elevating the overall capabilities around the Business domain and product knowledge.
  • Point of escalation for issues which adversely affect systems performance, design, or functionalities.
  • Sound analytical skill and change management capabilities to work independently on transformation, improvement initiatives, liaising effectively with senior stakeholders and vendors on complex problems etc.
  • Describe technology in terms easily understood by business customers and set realistic customer expectations for the project outcome. Adjust customer expectations in accordance with changes in scope.
  • Generate innovative approaches to existing problems or new opportunities.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to build trust and understand their goals, motivations, constraints, risks, and operating environment
What we need from you

We are keen to hear from the candidates with the below skill set:
  • Significant experience in IT Business Analyst role.
  • Significant trade lifecycle experience around standard instruments such as forwards, futures, swaps and options. Ideally in the energy markets.
  • Experience of one or more ETRM (Energy Trading Risk Management) platforms - ideally Endur or Aligne. Also, experience of brokered and exchange markets that EPTB (Environmental Products Trading Business) are active in (ICE, CME etc).
  • Experience of using Business Analysis techniques and tools with significant experience in project deliverables including the ability to:
    • Precisely capture business problems, value drivers, and functional/non-functional requirements
    • Translate business requirements into functionality and assess the risks, feasibility, opportunities, and business impacts of various solution options
  • Experience working in geographically distributed teams
  • Experience working in Agile project Delivery
  • Ideally knowledge of Commodity Trading and deal life cycle and/ or knowledge of ETRM Systems and/or Front Office & Back Office Processes and/or knowledge of renewables/carbon markets
  • Beneficial to have experience of managing complex data and analysis.
  • Experience around risk measures and valuation of various products is preferred.
  • Core BA and stakeholder management experience is preferred.
