The Opportunity

We are looking for an Investment Accountant to work at our Helicopter division in Yeovil.

You will play a critical role in supporting audits of external funding and your primary purpose will be to provide financial governance to the Research & Innovation function and to the Product development teams, ensuring appropriate internal controls and performance measurements are adhered to.

What you will do

The key accountabilities associated with the role are to:
  • Advise on the correct accounting treatment of contracts, ensuring accordance with relevant policies. Liaising with relevant parties and in relation to the appropriate setting of rates to be used on new business.
  • Ensure grants are claimed on a timely basis in accordance with the appropriate regulations.
  • Ensure adequate controls are maintained throughout the project to maximise grant claims and ensure costs are deemed allowable upon audit.
  • Manage the audit of Leonardo Helicopters UK claims by external agencies.
  • Liaise with external agencies in respect of filing reports, claims and arranging meetings.
  • Delivery of accurate Budgets for contracts (both part and fully funded), ensuring Budget holders understand their Budgets and cashflow relevant to control their deliverables.
  • Financial control of contracts, from launch, and ensure the creation of an efficient project cost structure, to execution and through to contract closure.
  • Provide and define realistic and accurate financial information against contract milestones (activities), ensuring the relevant financial accounting standard is applied.
  • Be responsible for the timely and accurate month end reporting, to include the relevant analysis as required
  • Provide financial assistance to the programme / functional manager as required.
  • Compile quarterly forecasts and annual budgets are required by the group timetable.
  • Provide financial input in respect of grant applications to third parties and internal approval documents for new product investment.


What we are looking for

We would expect you to have a degree of technical knowledge and skill in accounting, commensurate with a Qualified Accountant (or QBE by exception) with significant experience in an Accounting environment.

We would also like you to have:
  • Knowledge of accounting transactions
  • Proficiency in both ERP and Microsoft office
  • Good inter-personal and team skills
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks
  • Attention to detail.
