Reporting to the Finance Manager Treasury, the Senior Finance Advisor Treasury is a key role in the UK Controllers team providing financial expertise and core capabilities in the financial management of Shell's critical Treasury companies. The role has a wide number of interfaces into the Holding and Treasury organisation including Tax, Legal, Treasury and Finance Operations. The role provides experience in a set of core finance competences, including accounting and reporting, Governance Risk & Assurance (GRA) and stakeholder management, which are critical to building a finance career.

As Senior Finance Advisor Treasury, you'll be sitting within the Corporate Controllers' team in London, as part of our Centre of Expertise (CoE) for technical accounting, risk management and Group structuring. You will also be providing controllership of the Group's critical holding and treasury companies; these are material companies which are integral to the Group's performance and several of the holding companies would be in the FTSE and our largest treasury centre is equivalent to a medium size bank. So robust controllership and risk management is a vital part of our roles.

The team is around 15 people based in London with a larger natural working team in our finance operations centre in Chennai where the day-to-day finance processes are run. With your focus on financial management, you can expect to be working closely with Treasury, as well as with colleagues in Finance Operations, Tax and Legal.

What's the role?

We'll be looking to you to provide expert advice and guidance on technical treasury accounting, across multiple Shell financing activities and businesses. As our 'voice' of Finance, you'll quickly understand and guide on the best solutions that will achieve business objectives, add value and drive effective risk management. With an ever-changing business environment, your insight and experience will be essential to prioritise activities according to opportunity and risk.

More specific duties might include:
  • Providing expert accounting advice to project teams to ensure that transactions are appropriately reported and understood
  • Responsibility for a number of key treasury areas of subject matter expertise
  • Maximising the use of Finance Operations in process delivery and supporting knowledge transfer and competency build as more Legal Entity Controller (LEC) work is transitioned
  • Ensuring an appropriate control framework is in place for risk management
  • Appropriately involving other teams to support financial activities, whilst building overall accountability.
  • Providing expert Finance Advisor support across a wide range of connected areas such as risk management and group structuring.
As a Senior Finance Advisor you will also provide support and oversight to the Finance Advisors in the team.

You'll be an expert on technical accounting, supporting direction on a range of technical issues, and helping to implement new financial structures and reporting standards. Your excellent communication skills will be vital to the role, ensuring you effectively articulate value and risks to influence decision making and drive performance whilst also playing an important part in training and giving context to a wide range of stakeholders.

What we need from you?

Alongside experience as a qualified Chartered Accountant (or equivalent), we also expect that the candidate will either have, or be prepared to study towards, a recognised Treasury qualification, (preferably AMCT or equivalent).

Beyond financial management expertise and knowledge of business functions and objectives, we're also keen to hear from candidates with many of the following on their CV:
  • Expertise across the spectrum of Finance competences.
  • Experience in risk management and corporate structuring would be an advantage
  • A proven record of continuous improvement.
  • An ability to use analytics and insights to resolve problems, with a view to influencing and supporting the decision-making process and risk management.
  • Skills within project management.
