We are partnering with a high profile financial services business seeking to recruit a qualified Finance Manager to lead their talented team.

Description

The Finance Manager will be responsible for leading the Accounting team (5-6 reports, transactional and part qualified level); operating as a key part of the Finance department based in their Basingstoke head office circa 3 days per week. You'll be responsible for guaranteeing the monthly closing process and exercising financial control over the balance sheet to support best in class financial reporting, financial control and business partnering with internal and external customers.

Key accountabilities will include:
  • Managing and developing team performance, adopting an appropriate coach/manager profile whilst ensuring effective control. Ensuring all team members have formalised objectives and clear expectations of role, regular 1-2-1s / coaching, review of technical and personal skillsets, development of business and commercial awareness and identification of training needs.
  • Overseeing delivery of monthly close in line with group deadlines, norms and standards including oversight of the group reporting packages. All balances and close processes should be suitably evidenced and appropriately reviewed and approved to ensure accuracy of results, eliminate risk of error and provide clear audit trail.
  • Analytical review on key profit and loss, balance sheet and off-balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensuring effective financial control is performed on all balance sheet and off-balance sheet accounts in line with deadlines and quality standards, including ageing of positions and calculation of provisions. All reconciliations are to be suitably evidenced and reviewed to demonstrate operational of financial control.
  • Strengthening of business partnering to follow up on items at risk with the account owner to ensure the implementation of action plans and pro-active remedial action. All opportunities and risks summarised in Balance Sheet Review.
  • Developing a solid commercial understanding of all accounting balances (profit and loss, balance sheet, off balance sheet). Establish clear terms of engagement with stakeholders, including roles and responsibilities, tolerances, reporting requirements, action plans and escalation process
  • Maintaining proactive communication with the Finance Director & other business leaders, delivering timely escalation of close or financial control issues reflecting sensitivity of topic, context and stakeholders and monthly KPI reporting.



Profile

Preferred candidate criteria:

    Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA)
  • Robust understanding of financial control, accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with 'right first time' mindset.
  • Prior team management experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, enabling the message to be tailored to the seniority and experience of the audience.
  • Proactive, collaborative approach, maintaining an independent viewpoint.
  • Autonomous in operation, with strong organisation skills and deadline oriented.
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial awareness with a focus on understanding all account balances, enabling potential accounting and financial control issues to be identified and proportionate remediation plans to be identified and implemented with process/account owner.
  • Strong Excel skills, with sound knowledge of general ledger tools
  • Financial Services sector experience would be advantageous but is not essential

Job Offer

Hybrid working: The role offers the opportunity to work from home 2-3 days per week if desired.
