The Actuarial Retirement Solutions Balance Sheet Lead is a new and strategically important role which will build and lead a new team of Review Actuaries, Production Actuaries and Analysts to produce and review monthly and quarterly results for the Phoenix's Retirement Solutions Business.

We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as Retirement Solutions Actuarial Balance Sheet Lead, joining our new established Open Actuarial Reporting and Change team.


As Retirement Solutions Actuarial Balance Sheet Lead, you will establish and lead a team of Review Actuaries, Production Actuaries and Actuarial Analysts to produce and review monthly and quarterly results for the Retirement Solutions business.


Under your leadership this new team will provide vital insight into the financial performance of the Retirement Solutions business through production, validation and review of the Profit and Loss Attribution, Matching Adjustment, Trading Impacts and Capital metrics. You will take a prominent leadership role, working with senior stakeholders, attending governance committees and providing expert knowledge to support strategic decision-making.
Establishing a completely new team, you will have the opportunity to help shape how it operates and interacts across a broad range of production, review and analysis activity, and through managing and supporting the development of several actuarial team members.

The role


As Retirement Solutions Actuarial Balance Sheet Lead, you will establish and lead a team of Review Actuaries, Production Actuaries and Actuarial Analysts to produce and review monthly and quarterly results for the Retirement Solutions business, ensuring timely, high quality delivery.


The team will oversee the end-to-end production of the actuarial balance sheet for Phoenix's Retirement Solutions Division. You will provide vital insight into the financial performance of the Retirement Solutions business, including validation and review of the Profit and Loss Attribution, Matching Adjustment, Trading Impacts and Capital metrics. You will take a prominent leadership role, working with senior stakeholders, attending governance committees and providing expert knowledge to support strategic decision-making. Working closely with the Head of Open Actuarial Reporting and Change and the Retirement Solutions Commercial Finance Director, you and your team will play a key role in ensuring that the business can meet its solvency requirements, identifying and implementing management actions.


Your team will also support strategic change projects from across the open business division and you may have the opportunity to act as a business lead on certain projects.
Establishing a new team, you will have the opportunity to help shape how it operates and interacts across a broad range of production, review and analysis activity, and through managing and supporting the development of several actuarial team members.

What are we looking for?


We are looking for a qualified actuary with more than 6 years post-qualified experience and a strong track record of delivery in a commercial environment. Knowledge of financial reporting metrics, including SII and IFRS is highly desirable, as is experience of reporting on those metrics and providing insight and analysis through Profit and Loss Attribution. Experience presenting to senior and executive stakeholders, supporting and influencing decision-making, combined with a strong appetite for change and experience of driving continuous improvement would set you up well for success as the Retirement Solutions Actuarial Balance Sheet Lead.


An understanding of how new business - particularly but not exclusively bulk purchase annuities and equity release mortgages - interact with a Life Insurance balance sheet is desirable. Knowledge of capital metrics and new business capital strain, equity release mortgages, matching adjustment and experience of the assets side of the balance sheet would also fit well with the role.


You will be keen to learn fast in a changing environment, and will bring an ability to build strong relationships and drive action through influence and leadership across boundaries. Experience and ability to influence and communicate effectively with executives at the business leadership level, as well as with SME's across the business is also highly valuable.
