Job Description

As a Finance function, data is critical to all that we do. The Finance Data Governance team is responsible for all aspects of governance including the sourcing of data, compliance with firmwide policy and the life-cycle of data issues, including the production of metrics and reporting for management. The team drives forward change, representing Finance on cross-divisional projects and championing data related programs within the division.

This is a growing team in Glasgow which presents a great opportunity for the successful candidate to help shape the function going forward, with a platform to influence across the Finance Data team and gain exposure to a wide range of functions and products across Morgan Stanley.
The successful candidate will work with colleagues in Glasgow as well as globally across Finance, Technology, Operations and other business units.

What will you be doing?

  • Working with the global Finance Data team to develop and implement meaningful performance metrics and ensure timely escalation to management.
  • Preparing high quality materials for multiple governance forums as well as for senior management.
  • Identifying opportunities for the ongoing improvement of Data Governance processes and operational efficiencies.
  • Supporting the planning and forecasting of Finance Data activities, including working with leadership on prioritisation.
  • Leading division-wide data projects on behalf of the Finance Data Governance team.
  • Representing the Finance organisation within cross-divisional data office working groups, influencing to ensure Finance stakeholders' interests are met.
  • Working with internal/external audit as required.

Where will you be working?

This role is based at our Glasgow office on Waterloo Street in the city center. This location has a wellness center, including gym and shower/changing facilities, GP, Prayer room, Canteen and onsite Starbucks.

QUALIFICATIONS

What we’re looking for:

Skills Required:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work consistently and efficiently to achieve goals either as an individual or as part of a team.
  • Highly organised, with a proven track record of delivering to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of interpreting, summarising and presenting results in a meaningful format to clients and Senior Management.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and ability to engage with colleagues/clients of all levels.
  • Highly numerate with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Accounting background and knowledge of Financial Statements; qualified or part-qualified accountant.
  • Understanding and experience of Data Governance and/ or Data Issues Management.
  • Understanding of application of Data Policies in practice and awareness of data compliance requirements.
  • Understanding/experience of operational risk, risk identification/remediation.
  • Experience within the Financial Services Industry.
  • Experience of project management, preferably Agile.
