To provide the client with a quality and continually improving financial service, including budget setting, monthly management accounts, fixed assets, and annual accounts duties.

Client Details

My client is a joint venture company of South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) and George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust (GEH).

Description

1. Supporting the Financial Controller in the production of the annual statutory accounts, the budget setting, and the provision of financial information to the Company Finance Director and Chief Executive. This includes meeting regularly with members of the management team and budget holders to provide detailed accounting advice and support to ensure that the financial position of the Company is understood, and any potential financial problems are identified early enough for corrective action to be taken.
2. The provision of information to internal and external auditors and other regulatory bodies.
3. Responsible for producing the monthly management accounts including income and expenditure report, balance sheet and the forecast position for the Company.This includes:

  • Review of the Finance Assistant work on the monitoring of in month spend against allocation, explanations of variances from plan and confirming classification of costs
  • Oversight of the outputs of the external payroll provider. Ensuring the necessary deductions are paid in line with agreed monthly timescales. To liaise with the payroll provider to resolve pay queries or discrepancies. Ensuring the Finance Assistant keeps staffing reports up to date
  • Preparation and review of balance sheet and reconciliation of control accounts including Company lease car and other staff benefit schemes.
  • Production of forecast position for the Company for the income and expenditure and cashflow (including the impact of major projects)
  • Liaising and meeting regularly with members of these teams, identifying any potential financial problems early enough for corrective action to be taken and ensuring projects remain within budget.
  • Commentary on divisional performance
  • Assisting the Financial Controller in the completion of the Board report.
  • Responsible for the finance elements of the company fixed asset register using the system maintained by operational staff, including:
  • Monthly depreciation adjustments
  • Correct classification of assets

4. Accounting treatment of any assets purchased/disposed/revalued

  • Oversight of physical verification checks
  • Monthly reconciliation of the ledger to the operational system

5. To lead on month end for the major schemes ensuring accuracy in monthly reporting. Including:

  • Liaising and meeting regularly with members of these teams identifying any potential financial problems early enough for corrective action to be taken and ensuring projects remain within budget.
  • Monitoring of in month spend against allocation, explanations of variances from plan and confirming classification of costs, using finance assistant as appropriate
  • Ensuring accruals (including any retention amounts) are made as appropriate
  • Completion of forecasts through discussion with the various teams
  • Overall reconciliation of the capital creditors balance sheet code each month.

6. To be responsible for the supervision and line management of the Finance Assistant.

Profile

Part qualified CCAB (or equivalent) regulated finance qualification and actively working towards full qualification (study support available) - This will be essential for this particular role.

Relevant experience in a similar scale organisation.

Understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards and their application.
