Job Description

The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 2500 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.

The Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial and regulatory reporting for the Firm. FCG prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators. For internal reporting FCG, along with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA), summarizes, plans and forecasts the organization's financial position, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future revenues, expenses and earnings. FCG is comprised of Business Unit Controllers, Infrastructure Controllers, Accounting, Regulatory and Reporting groups, Tax and Valuation Review.

This Vice President role will reside within the Finance Division, under the Finance Risk and Assurance function. The Finance Risk agenda includes, but is not limited to, Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Operational Risk Governance, Reporting & Metrics, Business Continuity Planning, Information Security, Supplier Risk and Fraud Risk. Team members require an understanding of operational risk concept and control frameworks, an ability to interpret relevant policies and regulations and to coordinate governance activities across the division. What will you be doing?

  • Vice President within Global Finance Risk and Assurance team reporting to the Global Head of Finance Operational Risk Governance contributing to the development, design and direction setting of the function and its work streams.
  • Supporting Senior Finance management in a trusted advisor role to assist in compliance with Firm mandated Risk programs and establishment of associated operational risk governance frameworks.
  • Perform and present analysis of risk data for identification of thematic risk issues to escalate to senior management suggesting remediation as appropriate.
  • Lead various Global and EMEA risk reduction initiatives and regulatory deliverables in partnership with colleagues and key stakeholders in first and second line senior management (Finance and cross-divisional).
  • Monitor changes to and provide feedback on Firm operational risk policies and procedures engaging colleagues and key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Assist global colleagues in execution of various streams of operational risk related work (e.g. Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Information Security, Business Continuity Planning)
  • Ad hoc duties as required #LI-RW


Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Strong understanding of operational risk concepts and frameworks
  • Ability to collaborate and manage relationships with multiple senior stakeholders across Finance and other divisions
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables
  • Committed and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate initiative & problem-solving abilities
  • Analytical skills with a control focus and high regard for attention to detail
  • Critical thinking in order to challenge processes, solve for ad hoc queries and creativity to suggest alternative approaches
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to influence colleagues/stakeholders of all levels
  • Strong MS office skills particularly PowerPoint.
  • Previous Financial Services Finance experience or accounting qualification (ACCA, ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA)
