Job Description

We have an exciting management opportunity in a new role within our commercial finance team. So if you’re an experienced finance professional looking to join a dynamic finance team in a high profile role, this role could be for you.

Managing a team of two, you will be responsible for the reporting, budgeting and forecasting of the Group’s Marketing costs. In addition, you will oversee the wider reporting of Online profit margins, working closely with other Finance colleagues to improve the reporting and the process of cost allocations across our Online business divisions.

Marketing

  1. Our Marketing teams are responsible for
  2. visual merchandising and displays in our Retail stores,
  3. Online photography and
  4. Online digital marketing. With a total annual spend of c.£180m, you will work with the respective stakeholders to support accurate reporting, budgeting and forecasting of these costs, highlighting opportunities to save or profitability invest. In respect of digital marketing your team will perform weekly appraisals of all campaigns to measure the financial returns achieved, highlighting the areas that best drive sales and profit growth. We market to millions of customers in the UK and 70 overseas countries, so the potential to drive growth is immense!

Online Margin Reporting

Accurate reporting and a detailed understanding of the economics of our Online business is key to making the right financial decisions. NEXT has three distinct reporting divisions Online, all of which have slightly different economics and margins: (1) NEXT UK, (2) LABEL UK (third-party brands) and (3) Overseas. In addition, NEXT now provides services to other online retailers through ‘Total Platform’. So reporting all of our Online costs in the right place is a complicated process! All our finance teams allocate their respective costs to each division, and in this central reporting role you will be responsible for oversight of this process by:

  • Implementing process improvement for cost allocations across all teams, ultimately leading to a more efficient and automated process.
  • Working with peers to understand and/or challenge their method of cost allocation.
  • Reviewing cost allocations for consistency, implementing change where necessary.
  • Reporting overall margins by each division, on a monthly basis, coordinating commentary from other finance teams.
  • Following up on any queries or anomalies identified during monthly management reviews.
  • Preparing a summary of the Online margins achieved for our external City announcements, providing commentary and insight to the numbers.

This is a great opportunity for a high profile management role, which provides both commercial and financial insight to senior management.

So what are we looking for?

  • You’ll have a good commercial awareness, strong data skills and attention to detail with a real focus on customer service.
  • You could be a qualified accountant, QBE with considerable experience in a similar role, or a data expert who has worked with a strong emphasis on controls and reporting.
  • You should be astute in your analysis, to identify opportunities to enhance growth and communicate these effectively to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills and confident in motivating, supporting and developing your team, leading discussions, promoting change and driving business improvements.
  • You should have experience in process improvement, from identifying improvement opportunities through to the controlled implementation of change.
  • You will be highly organised with the ability to prioritise
