External Reporting & Compliance Manager

Purpose of role:
You will lead a team of accountants whose responsibility will be to ensure Primark meet all our statutory and compliance obligations in existing and new markets. This role will require a deep understanding of the Primark and ABF group structure and you will be expected to proactively engage with various senior stakeholders to ensure deadlines are achieved. You will have a commercial mindset and will be expected to support the business as new strategic initiatives are launched by ensuring our compliance obligations are fulfilled.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish a mechanism to ensure appropriate review and reporting is performed at entity level in advance of period-end close
  • Lead the development and maintenance of secondary ledgers for all Primark entities and establish a governance process to ensure these are kept up to date
  • Set out and deliver a vision for an Entity Controllership function with Financial Reporting
  • Manage statutory, legal and all compliance reporting for all entities within the Primark group in accordance with local and group requirements
  • On-board compliance requirements for new markets into finance and deliver consistencies and efficiencies
  • Develop relationships with Retail and P&C to deliver best in class engagement on statutory obligations with Workers Council
  • Manage the ABF relationship effectively to ensure our Co-Sec requirements are met in the most efficient way possible
  • Manage the Board approval process for Senior stakeholders within Primark and ABF
  • Develop relationships with external third-party providers to ensure Primark’s statutory reporting cycle operates in an efficient manner
  • Build relationships with key internal stakeholders such as Tax, Treasury and Legal to ensure our statutory reporting is in compliance with regulatory compliance
  • Provide support (where appropriate) to local entities
  • Ensure proper books and records are held in all jurisdictions and are in accordance with local requirements (tax, accounting, legal etc.)
Essential knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Experience working in an External Reporting role
  • Experience working across multiple teams and markets
  • In depth knowledge of Primark’s statutory, legal and compliance requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) – ability to communicate to all levels within the business
  • Commercial awareness and mind-set, with ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of wider business
  • Strong engagement skills, with proven ability in developing effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation
  • Excellent planning and project management skills, ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise work schedule for self and team and work within agreed timescales
  • Demonstrates leadership skills with the ability to inspire, lead, build & deliver through high performing teams
  • Able to draw knowledge from a broad experience of financial roles
  • Brings a challenger mentality and constantly looks for continuous improvement
Successful candidates will meet the following criteria:
  • Educated to Degree +
  • Accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent)
  • 7+ years experience that spans financial and external reporting in a people management role for at least 3 years
  • Excellent communication skills combined with strong financial acumen
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates initiative with strong work ethic
  • Operates with a high level of integrity, diplomacy, tact and professionalism
