Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is one of a senior team of leaders in the Corporate Nursing and Integrated Governance Directorate who will collectively have the responsibility for managing assurance and enabling corporate compliance with the national requirements and standards set by the Care Quality Commission and other regulators.

The post holder will be a lead specialist for their defined portfolio and will interpret national guidelines and requirements related to divisional governance, effectiveness risk, health and safety, assurance, governance and compliance.

The post holder will be responsible for developing, maintaining and coordinating the corporate assurance systems relating to compliance with regulatory compliance and work with the Assistant Director of Integrated Governance to ensure that the Trust registrations status is accurately maintained.

The post holder will also provide support to the Director of Integrated Governance in respect of producing the Trust Annual Quality Account.

They will oversee the development and deployment of the required corporate policy, guidance and training needs assessment and delivery related to the appropriate Modules of the Safeguard system.

The post holder will be responsible for establishing robust 'internal assurance and surveillance' systems and processes across all areas of the Trust.

The Post holder will inform the decision-making process via continual assessment of clinical and professional standards, patient pathways and then drive through the changes to ensure that the clinical outcomes and patient experience continually improves.

The post holder will provide support and assistance within the Integrated Governance Unit in the development of organisational wide systems and policies to support the development of good governance and increase the availability and accessibility of risk, quality and safety information and organisational knowledge to appropriate staff.

The post holder will ensure that there are robust risk management processes in operation across the organisation, ensuring that the Trust is compliant with its Risk Management Framework and that there are robust systems in operation for the escalation, mitigation management and flow of risks from services to Board (and vice-versa).

The post holder is also responsible for overseeing the Health and Safety Agenda across the organisation, ensuring that the Trust takes appropriate action in respect to Central Alert System and Patient Safety Alerts. The post holder will also ensure all areas have robust Health and Safety and COSH assessments in place.

The post holder will have direct line management responsibilities for the Divisional Governance Managers and the Health and Safety / Risk Management and support staff.

The post holder will support the administration of key governance meetings including the sub board quality and governance meeting, along with the service quality assurance group.

  • 2. Excellent working knowledge of assurance, compliance, risk, patient focus, clinical governance, complaints, litigation activities and Coronial Inquest processes with demonstrable evidence of positively influencing quality and safety and patient experience
  • 18. 8. Significant experience of supporting and administering senior meetings including sub board committees


Desirable criteria
  • 1. Recent Health or Social Care experience at senior management level including reporting directly to a Director

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
