Racing Welfare is a national charity supporting horseracing’s current and retired workforce.  We are seeking a management accountant with a ‘can-do’ attitude to join our friendly finance team based in Newmarket.

It’s an exciting time to be joining the organisation; our charity has never been more needed by the industry, and after a period of rapid growth we have great plans for the future.

On a day-to-day basis you will be:

  • Preparing financial information for the board, senior leadership team and budget holders, including quarterly management accounts;
  • Taking ownership of all balance sheet items, ensuring all are regularly reconciled;
  • Helping colleagues across the organisation, including regularly reconciling our accounts system with that of the welfare and fundraising teams;
  • Line managing three experienced accounts assistants;
  • Work closely with (and reporting into) the Finance and Operations Director, including assisting with the annual audit and budget setting;

You will be offered a competitive salary, employer pension scheme, 25 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus bank holidays, tickets to almost all race meetings at Jockey Club racecourses, twice-yearly all-staff training and team building events along with a range of other employee wellbeing initiatives.

As a charity, wellbeing is at the forefront of all we do. We aim to be a leading employer in the industry and make sure everyone at Racing Welfare has the opportunity to thrive.

You will be a proactive and organised individual with a naturally analytical approach and having a strong eye for detail. You will be a fully- or part-qualified accountant with a recognised accountancy body and have experience working in a similar role within a charity along with a good understanding of charity SORP.

The closing date is Friday 10th February. We reserve the right to bring forward the closing date if we receive a large number of suitable applications.

This is a part-time post, based in our Newmarket office with hybrid working options. Infrequent travel throughout the UK may be required.

Salary: £40,000 FTE

We strongly believe in being an innovative, diverse, and inclusive organisation and recognise that diversity in all of our people will help achieve that purpose and our mission more effectively. We actively encourage and seek applications from a wide diversity of candidates.

Racing Welfare is committed to safeguarding and will always recruit all personnel in line with government guidelines, relevant legislation, and the Charity Commission's best practice guidance.
