The Head of Strategic Projects has delegated responsibility for ensuring the effective provision of strategic and operational support to organisational entities, including the delivery of various projects as well stewardship of significant budgets.

Description

  • Working with the business unit leaders, lead on the implementation of the strategy and, through an effective analysis and understanding of unit business requirements, work as a core member of the Senior Management Team to help define and agree strategic priorities.
  • Working with the leadership team, lead the professional development of Unit based staff supporting organisational activity. This role will have responsibility for developing and managing a diverse group of administrative and support staff across the Units within organisation.
  • Ensuring attainment of high-quality results in a cost effective and timely manner, to agreed quality standards,
    and to ensure organisational policies and procedures are interpreted and implemented. This will be achieved
    through key activities including, the development and implementation of systems and structures that
    underpin the effective administration of HR, compliance, academic support, financial, IT and general
    management activity.

Profile

  • Educated to degree level with senior managerial experience, preferably within both an academic and healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrable experience of contributing to the strategic direction of a division and presenting to committees or groups.
  • Experience of preparing and managing significant financial budgets (>£5M).
  • Experience in managing a large team (>20), with the ability to gain support, motivate and develop.
  • Experience of HR, including recruitment and selection of staff, retention, performance management, and staff development.
  • Working knowledge of the scientific grant system and the major funding bodies, and of current issues affecting the research funding sector.
  • A successful record of achievement in managing change, particularly with regard to the effect on staff.
  • Experience in policy development and implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, for example reviewing financial paperwork for accuracy and conformity to procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
