Head of Finance role responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the College's finance function and providing leadership and management to the finance team in order to deliver the full range of services associated with a further education college finance department, such as financial and management accounting, budget preparation and monitoring, treasury management, tax and other statutory financial returns.

Description

  • You will be responsible for leading and managing the Finance team, which includes task allocation, monitoring, and evaluation, appraisals, training and personal growth, resource planning, and holding regular team meetings to maintain effective communication across the team.
  • Directly manage workers in accordance with the College's HR rules, taking a proactive approach and employing innovative problem solutions to ensure high performance standards are maintained.
  • Prepare the yearly budget for the College, the Integrated Financial Model for Colleges, and any other financial plans, forecasts, and benchmarking returns required for submission to the funding authority.
  • Ensure that the College's Financial Regulations and Procedures are followed and updated on a regular basis, as well as complying with all statutory financial reporting requirements, such as HMRC and other applicable financial regulatory authorities.
  • Prepare the Internal Audit Plan for the College and monitor and report on the required actions related with the audit of key financial controls. You will also serve as the College's primary point of contact with internal and external auditors, handling the process of arranging internal and external audits as well as receiving and presenting audit reports.
  • Responsible for preparing the College's annual report and financial statements, monthly management accounts and forecasts with supporting commentary, and KPI analysis on timetable agreed upon with governors and the executive team.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information obtained when performing duties for any member of the College's staff, students, or departments, and follow the College's Data Protection Policy and applicable data protection requirements.
  • Ensure that the College's pension arrangements are correctly handled, including the completion of returns and paying over deductions in line with the requirements of the managing schemes..

Profile

  • Fully ACCA, CIPFA, CCAB or CIMA qualified with 3 experience managing a large team.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and the ability to provide sound, comprehensive financial information and reporting.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate at all levels within the College and with external stakeholders as required.

Job Offer

  • £52,970 per annum.
  • 35 days per annum (including up to 5 days Christmas efficiency closure) plus public holidays.
  • Local government pension scheme.
