Job Description

Position Summary:
This position is in the Accounting and Reporting team of our European Centre of Excellence. The centre provides financial controllership in the region for one of the Thermo Fisher Scientific groups, i.e. Diagnostics.

The role entails taking ownership of the accounting for the given entity, to deliver accurate and timely results to be reported both internally and externally, within the wider accounting and reporting team.

The position will have various levels of interactions inside and outside the organisation, working in a multitask environment, including some informal supervision.

Responsibilities:
  • Supporting to the SDG Finance Manager in supporting the Commercial Operations Entities.
  • Ensuring the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of monthly close activities
  • Reviewing and, where required, preparing accounting entries. Evaluating entries for completeness and accuracy
  • Reviewing general ledger activity, researching and correcting account discrepancies
  • Performing and reviewing balance sheet account reconciliations, including general ledger accounts and sub ledger accounts. Researching and resolving any reconciling items on a monthly basis
  • Delivering statistical returns
  • Assisting in maintenance of documentation of policies, procedures and controls. Ensuring compliance with Corporate Accounting policies, procedures and controls (Sarbanes-Oxley Act)
  • Being key point of contact for external and internal auditors as well as various groups companywide
  • Driving PPI (improvement) initiatives
  • Reviewing variance analysis including current-to-prior month/quarter/year fluctuations
  • Management reporting to Corporate through Hyperion

Skills/Experience Required:
  • Accuracy and detail-orientation
  • Ability to prioritise and follow through in a fast-paced, multitask environment
  • High level of proactivity to fully engage in continuous improvement
  • Good technical accounting knowledge and proficiency in MS Excel
  • Excellent communication skills and experience of communicating with stakeholders, both within and outside of Finance
  • Working knowledge of ERPs (E1 or SAP) desired but not essential
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP desired but not essential
  • Experience working in accountancy, including: month-end, balance sheets, and working to deadlines.
