Description of business unit
The Responsible and Sustainable (RSB) team of the Group Finance division. Led by the Group Chief Sustainability and Investor Relations Officer, the RSB team sits within Group Finance and leads on the development, implementation and coordination of the RSB strategy, 'Investing in Tomorrow', as well as leading on the 'Supporting the Green Transition' pillar.
Purpose of the Role
In 2021, Bank of Ireland Group published its Responsible and Sustainable Business strategy. Behaving in a responsible and sustainable way is fundamental to achieving the Group's purpose of enabling customers, colleagues and communities to thrive. The RSB strategy comprises three pillars: Enabling Colleagues to Thrive; Enhancing Financial Wellbeing; and Supporting the Green Transition. These pillars are underpinned by great foundations which guide our dedication to being a responsible and sustainable business.
Through this strategy, we are developing new capabilities in our colleagues, building financial capability and confidence in our customers and communities. We are also supporting our customers and communities transition to a green, sustainable economy.
The strategy further aligns our businesses with the United Nations Principles for Responsible Banking which we signed up to in October 2019. It also helps us to address other voluntary commitments such as TCFD. To transparently report our strategic progress to our partners, the Group published it's inaugural Responsible and Sustainable Business Report for 2021 earlier this year. This sustainability report showcased the progress made by the Group across all pillars of the strategy to date, included a number of important metrics aligned to GRI and limited assurance was acquired over selected critical metrics.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the ESG & Climate Reporting Lead, in the development and implementation of ESG & Climate reporting/disclosure policies to meet all regulatory and voluntary requirements e.g. Non-financial Reporting Directive (NFRD)/Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), UN Principles for Responsible Banking (UNPRB), TCFD etc.;
- Support the annual ESG & Climate reporting requirements e.g. Responsible and Sustainable Business report, by engaging with multiple Divisions and teams across the Group, ensuring inputs are appropriately validated;
- Contribute ESG and climate content to other reporting results as required e.g. annual report;
- Contribute to ESG ratings agency returns and engagements with the objective of improving ratings. Proactively engage with internal partners to drive the change required to improve the ratings;
- Collaborate with various Divisions and teams across the Group to assist in the creation of a robust processes and internal controls around ESG reporting and play a central role in the Group's CSRD readiness preparations;
- Participate in working groups etc. as appropriate to keep abreast of the evolving reporting landscape e.g. UNPRB, TCFD, EU Taxonomy, TNFD etc.
- Handle day-to-day queries with third party consultants and auditors who may provide support for the delivery of reports and / or independently assure same.

This is an exciting new role to contribute to the delivery of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) & Climate reporting for Bank of Ireland Group. It is a constantly evolving area, and one of strategic importance to the Group, so presents an outstanding opportunity for the successful candidate to work in a dynamic team and gain experience in a highly topical area.
The role holder will work closely with the ESG & Climate Reporting Lead to deliver all aspects of ESG reporting for the Group, providing excellent exposure across various Divisions and teams.

This job can be done anywhere in the Republic Of Ireland with the primary office location as Dublin to which travel will be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with manager.
Essential Qualifications
- Qualified Accountant
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience in reporting processes and in ensuring that published information is appropriately validated;
- Experience engaging with auditors and supporting audit processes;
- Knowledge of and/ or curiosity about dominant ESG issues and ESG global reporting standards;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to be proactive, delivery focused and handle range of contending priorities and tight delivery timelines;
- Ability to work both on own initiative and as part of a team;
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external partners.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Previous experience of working in the Banking sector;
- Relevant knowledge of the regulatory and legal environment in which the Group operates and the ability to apply that knowledge in addressing practical issues;
- Experience and strong proficiency in the use of systems, data collection technologies, and reporting software;
- Enterprise risk management, compliance, and sustainability experience is desired.
