We have a new exciting opportunity to join us as a Senior Project Accountant for a 1 year fixed term contract. As a fully qualified Accountant you will be reporting to the Project Controlling Manager of the Projects & Transactions team, this role is responsible for accurate and timely accounting and capitalisation of projects labour aligned to policy. This is a Hybrid role with 2 days based in the amazing Hatfield head office and 3 days remotely working from home!

Key responsibilities include ownership of the project lifecycle: Supporting business stakeholders from opening projects to closing; month end close and first line reporting. The Senior Project Accountant is the point of escalation, review and approval for the team under their responsibility while also being accountable for supporting relevant close processes

What will you be doing?

  • Lead the team in the execution of relevant project activities (timesheet administration, travel & expenses, allocation of costs) accurately and on a timely basis
  • Provide oversight and challenge to project accounting team ensuring an efficient and accurate project accounting and support process; timely reporting and resolution of identified variances
  • Manage a timely period close for projects ensuring accurate reporting and reconciliations including CIP reconciliation to Project Subledger vs Time tracking system
  • Foster good working relationships with the Finance Business Partners and Project Managers
  • Interpreting, explaining and helping to drive performance across assigned projects
  • Support the project variance and project forecasting process in labour cost.
  • Ensuring (and supporting) compliance with group accounting policy & practice in particular the Group's project capitalisation and recognition processes)
  • Facilitating ad-hoc analysis and insights on specific project issues
  • Responsibility for team's adherence to the close calendar timelines (as they relate to project accounting)
  • Supporting the team to work with business partners and other finance areas to timely resolve variances and issues in order to meet reporting/timing requirements
  • Providing oversight; identifying opportunities to standardise, streamline and improve processes and accuracy
  • Leading the staff capex processes, calculating and reviewing the hourly rates
  • Provide the relevant reports and KPI matrix on monthly basis regarding internal generated assets to Commercial Finance Team
  • Acting as an escalation point for the team; helping resolve issues and or raise issues to senior management
  • Accountable for the team' s implementation and adherence to accounting policies set by the in-house technical team
  • Embed a culture of controls within the team, responsible for operating effectiveness of all key controls within the department's (project accounting) processes and remediation of any control weaknesses
  • Ensure the team is set up for success going into Half Year and Year End, ensuring all audit requests are dealt with appropriately and swiftly


About you

  • Have passed your full relevant financial qualifications (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) and have an understanding of relevant regulatory environments
  • Good understanding of core project/Finance processes and relevant systems
  • Knowledge of project accounting and reporting standards & principles,
  • Experience in a Fast-paced Global Environment (preferred)
  • Experience In Delivering Great customer/user experience
  • Experience In Process Improvement, Automation (preferred)
