Job Description
The product control function provides support to the financial controllers and trading desks to ensure that the P&L, balance sheet, and month end close procedures are done correctly and accurately. Within the product control function, External Reporting team is tasked with the validation of balance sheet, RWA and GSIB results for all businesses within Global Commodities Group (Energy, Base and Precious Metals, Agricultural Commodities and Investor Products across all regions), which primarily trade OTC and exchange derivatives and physical commodities. In addition, the team produces inputs for the consolidated firm's quarterly 10Q and annual 10K filing with SEC.
Working within a small, expert team, the candidate will be primarily involved in balance sheet reporting side, coordinating with a broad range of stakeholders across regions, including accounting policy, product control, financial control, treasury, and various project teams to ensure accurateness of balance sheet information. In addition, the candidate may be asked to work closely with a wider Commodities Product Control organization to help prepare daily P&L / Risk to FO and / or other ad-hoc queries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Substantiation of daily, monthly and quarterly balance sheet for all asset / liability groups for Global Commodities business based on market trends and position analysis
- Provide commentary on main balance sheet drivers and month on month / quarter on quarter / quarter over forecast variances
- Ensure regulation complaint operating environment
- Work on various projects related to balance sheet and funding
- Partner with the business to drive forth and implement robust controls and new business initiatives, confidence and communication skills imperative
- Handle various ad-hoc requests on a daily basis
- Understand, produce and explain daily P&L into constituent risk components; investigating any issues as needed
- Review with FO to obtain sign-off and for any ad hoc requests and queries. First point of contact for FO
- Additional liaison with other middle office areas, back office, FVP and technology development groups and point of contact for all downstream issues (e.g. Collateral, Credit, Settlements)
- Liaison with accounting control group to help investigate any issues around daily monitoring and review of the general ledger to reported P&L and month-end reporting and substantiation
- Manage projects and initiatives related to all of the above as well as larger cross-business programmes
- Be an active part of the team, coming up with ideas and suggestions for improvements etc.
Qualifications:
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail including a strong control focus is a must
- Ability to work highly independently and strong self-review of work
- Solid understanding of financial products, in particular derivatives, and / or Commodities markets would be advantageous
- Proactive and willing to accept responsibility
- Ability to challenge efficiency and drive forward on change and innovation of processes
- Excellent communication skills and ability to understand and explain complex concepts
- Strong technical skills in using Excel and PowerPoint
- Work experience within Product Control, Financial Control, Accounting, or related area preferred
- Motivated, positive "can do" attitude.
