Our Environment Business:

Our Environment Business provides 'source to sea' asset delivery capability across the UK and Scotland working on both Frameworks and Standalone projects. Since AMP3 we have delivered in excess of £2bn assets for clients such as Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Thames Water, Southern Water, Welsh Water and Scottish Water. As an established player in the market this a great opportunity to join the team at a time of transformation as we shape ourselves to be fit for delivery in a future digital world. Following the acquisition of the NMCN business, we have increased our portfolio of works across all the Water Frameworks in the UK.

Role Overview:

An opportunity has arisen for a Quality Manager/Auditor to join the team at Galliford Try. As a Quality Manager you will ensure all quality systems are in place and properly executed throughout the portfolio of projects in the Environment Business, and the Frameworks you manage. You will work alongside the Project Teams in ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Business Management System, reporting directly up to the Quality Lead for the Business. You will assist the Project Teams in identifying Non-conformance, to allow analysis and trending of data, to allow feedback and improvement to take place. The role is critical in helping to unlock marginal gains through developing and implementing proactive quality enhancement strategies to improve project and business performance.

This vacancy will be based in one of our office locations in the Southern Water Region from Sussex through to Hampshire

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in creating a knowingly safe working environment, that produces a Quality Product.
  • Support the Quality Lead for the Business in preparing for and participating in external accreditation or client-based audits.
  • Ensure that the Quality Cornerstone of Delivering Excellence is in place on all projects to deliver right first time to project specifications.
  • Through working with the other regional, project and framework-based quality teams ensure the project Quality Management System (QMS) meets the GT Business Management System (BMS) and client requirements.
  • Ensure that Quality pre-start meetings are held with sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure sub-contractors and suppliers are aware of their quality requirements and identify, communicate and mitigate key risk areas.
  • Be accountable for the development, roll out and coordination of Quality Audit programmes across the Framework(s) under your control and production of the audit reports, both internal and external, of suppliers and sub-contractors, working alongside the Quality Lead.
  • Have ownership of Non-Conformance Registers (NCR) at Framework business levels and drive the Quality Management and Operational Teams to ensure timely completion of said NCR's.
  • Produce, monitor, and report on non-conformance and quality related KPIs both internally and in line with client requirements across the Framework(s).
  • Assist in production of trends, analysis, and strategies to mitigate/ capitalise on re-occurring NCRs and best practice.
  • Have a good working knowledge of the Galliford Try Business Management System, so that you can assist Project Teams with compliance.
  • Have a good working knowledge of industry standards national and international (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, EU Construction Products Regulations, Relevant British Standards and Testing Requirements).
  • Support the Construction and Commercial Teams in management of Requests for Information (RFI's) and Technical Queries (TQ's), to resolve technical issues and identify non-conformance.
  • Through use of audits, investigations and lessons learned to identify and communicate good practice, key risks and highlight these internally to the Framework(s), you work within, in liaison with the Quality Lead.
  • Assist and provide guidance to the Project Teams in developing and implementing quality plans, processes and Inspection & Test plans (ITP's), and ensure compliance.
  • Assist the Project Teams with getting sub-contractors to produce ITP's, that are of a competent standard and ensure they are implemented.
  • Assist in production of project quality reports as required.
  • Audit and test Business Continuity Process in offices and projects in accordance with the approved Business Continuity validation programme within the region.
  • Encourage the promotion of a continuous improvement culture.
  • Management of Quality, IQVT, Document Control and Handover personnel as required.


Experience and Qualifications:
  • Ability to work safely.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, scope and contract information.
  • A working knowledge of Business Management Systems and contractual documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of ISO:9001.
  • High attention to detail through to completion.
  • Able to gather, analyse and evaluate facts.
  • Deliver reports orally and written in an objective and persuasive manner.
  • Knowledge of construction processes and specifications would be preferrable.
  • Practical experience of quality management in a relevant project-based environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a positive attitude and the ability to work with others to ensure that quality and contractual issues are identified and closed out in a timely manner.
  • HND Min Civil Engineer (Degree preferred)
  • Internal Auditor Qualification (preferred)
  • CSCS Qualification
  • Office 365 expertise
  • Viewpoint and field view knowledge
  • Active SHEQ knowledge for Audits (not essential - training will be provided)
  • Travel to various site locations across a wide operating area will require a UK Driving License
