Job Description
VP, Private Equity and Real Assets team, Luxembourg. This managerial position is within the Private Equity/Real Estate Business Unit of the State Street Alternative Investment Solutions Group in Luxembourg, reporting to the Head of the department. The position interacts with all levels of professionals both internally and externally Therefore, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are required. Candidates must demonstrate initiative, be able to perform well under pressure and simultaneously handle multiple assignments. The position is responsible for maintaining direct client relationships and managing and directing the day-to-day accounting and administration for multiple client sponsored investment funds in the Luxembourg market.
Responsibilities:
- Team lead; direct and/or indirect management and supervision of all subordinate staff levels within the AIS Fund Accounting & Admin team in Luxembourg
- Manage priorities and internal workflows to ensure internal processing and client deadlines are met. Oversee coordination of team deliverables, both with clients and internally, such as financial statements, capital calls and distribution notices
- Contribute to positive collaborative working culture within the fund accounting team, promoting our values
- Interact and collaborate with other team leads to ensure coordination of deliverables and achieving of company goals
- Ensure the development and implementation of training for all levels of accounting staff and management
- Meet all requirements for the performance planning process including goal setting, regular and immediate feedback and submission of formalised performance appraisals
- Implementation & oversight of a robust control environment:
- Maintain trackers & MIS reporting for key processes and deliverables including client/internal deliverables & regulatory reporting
- Participate in (and report to) the local Management & Risk Committees, as required
- Implement process improvement changes & bring staff along
- Perform oversight of any outsourced fund accounting or financial reporting work
- Maintain relationships with clients for administrative and accounting and admin matters:
- Maintain working relationship with client contacts, including investment professionals, investors, auditors, lawyers and banking personnel
- Manage client expectations with both client contacts and fund investors, as necessary
- Coordinate discussion and documentation of portfolio investment valuations or capital financing structures with clients, as necessary
- Review and/or prepare various client related correspondence
- Coordinate annual audit and tax return preparation with accounting firms
- Review quarterly and annual financial work papers including portfolio schedules, accruals, waterfall calculations and partner capital allocations
Provide technical support:
- Review and develop understanding of investment fund legal documents, including complete understanding of investor allocations and distribution waterfalls, and assist staff in ensuring all accounting procedures and calculations are consistent with governing documents
- Support the FA team in review of complex calculations (eg: quarterly management fees)
- Participate in special client or internal projects as required
Requirements:
- Candidates must have a college degree (accounting degree strongly preferred; business, mathematics, finance or economics degree required)
- 10 or more years of previous accounting experience, including 3 to 4 years of managerial experience
- Professional accounting qualification is a plus, but not required
- Experience in the private equity or real estate industry and financial reporting experience or relevant related experience
- Familiarity with the Luxembourg regulatory environment is desirable (including an understanding of the various filing requirements for different entity types and associated deadlines)
- Sound computer skills are required, especially Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel.
