The role
- Supporting the supply chain and commercial teams to navigate our waste expense through accurate and insightful analysis, that is data driven and actionable.
- Assessing the financial impact of ad hoc projects and initiatives, drawing on a broad network with exposure to senior stakeholders and playing a key role in the decision-making process
- The Finance Manager will need to provide a strong financial control environment, ensuring robust and accurate waste modelling and reporting
- Work closely day-to-day with category supply teams to provide financial support and challenge to facilitate great decision making in pursuit of the Sainsbury's strategy
- Responsible for setting an annual budget, corporate plan, and accurate forecasting of latest views
- Reporting actual performance, providing actionable insight on a weekly and periodic basis
- The role requires a high level of stakeholder engagement to ensure reported waste performance and forward views are clearly communicated and risks and opportunities are fully understood
- Build strong relationships with all business partners based on trust to ensure a good flow of communication and support is in place
- Work cross functionally to model the waste impact of various initiatives to influence the decision-making process, including strategic business cases and ranging decisions
- Identify areas of potential opportunity for an improved waste performance
- As part of the Supply Chain Finance team, you will support your Head of Finance and Director of Finance on all waste related matters
- Contribute to the overall output of a high performing team
- Delivering timely, robust, and accurate analysis, forecasting and reporting
- Ensuring rigor and challenge has been applied to financial modelling used in the decision-making process
- Alignment of key stakeholders across finance and non-finance by adjusting your influencing style to achieve objectives
- Build long term relationships with relevant stakeholders based on trust and collaboration
- Identification of potential future opportunities
- Being a first-class finance business partner to all levels of Supply Chain and the wider company
- Great communication skills, able to influence audiences of varying financial and commercial backgrounds
- High levels of pace, energy, and resilience
- A self-starter, and a strong team player that can work independently, spotting the areas to focus on and assisting in the decision-making process
- Must have a strong eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Be commercially astute
- CIMA/ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent experience within a financial environment)
- Strong Excel and numerical skills
- A proven track record of financial rigor and control
- Appropriate ad-hoc support from the Head of Finance, but also the wider Finance Leadership Team
- Training on the job, lunchtime learning and development sessions plus eLearning
- Regular 1-2-1s with the Head of Finance, which include development sessions
