About us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

The Finance and Performance (FP) business unit leads the department's efforts to ensure it operates within its means to achieve its priorities. It is responsible for the department's financial, budgetary and procurement strategies, policies and processes. The business unit also leads investment and performance analysis - a strengthened accountability agenda.

About the role

The purpose of the Accountant Officer (Assistant Accountant) role is to support Consumer Affairs, Liquor, Gaming and Dispute Services, including Liquor Control Victoria, accounting and finance-related responsibilities and achieve the requirements of internal and external stakeholders while maintaining the integrity of financial data and systems. The role assists more senior accountants in delivering the administrative revenue accounting function including but not limited to timely processing of liquor application fees.

The role is also responsible for developing and maintaining processes, cash management and reconciliations and other general accounting responsibilities for Consumer Affairs, Liquor, Gaming and Dispute Services.

In this role, you will:
  • assess, manage, and respond to finance-related queries from licensees, creditors and internal stakeholders, following up outstanding aged debtors to ensure timely payment and perform debt collection activities as required
  • provide support and assistance in Liquor Control Victoria's annual licence renewal process, including the preparation of paid licences and coordination of the distribution process through a mail house
  • maintain and administer Liquor Control Victoria's finance-related facilities and processes such as Liquor Licence Renewal payments and refunds, Proof of Age and the reconciliation of the payment facilities such as PayWave and SecurePay
  • provide support and assistance in managing other revenue streams in the Consumer Affairs, Liquor, Gaming and Dispute Services Group
  • assist in monitoring and reporting compliance with the Financial Management Compliance Framework process.
About you

This role is ideal for someone with:
  • strong numerical, reconciliations skills and conceptual knowledge of costing and accounting principles.
  • knowledge of the Australian Accounting Standards and Financial Management Compliance Framework, including the FMA and the Standing Directions
  • proven ability to produce, interpret and analyse specialist financial, budgetary and accounting advice
  • excellent problem solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to resolve complex financial issues.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
