International Institutions and Donor Assurance (IIDA) works closely with global clients such as UN agencies, the European Commission, Foundations and other Development Agencies, particularly those involved in international development. IIDA provides assurance services, including financial and systems audits, certifications, internal control assessments, technical assistance, and consultancy services to international institutions

You’ll be someone who can work pro-actively, managing your own tasks, but you’ll also be confident collaborating with others, communicating regularly with senior managers, Directors, and BDO’s Partners to enable us to serve our clients effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to our clients.

As an Associate Director you'll manage all aspects of a client contract involving concurrent individual audit assignments, and all aspects of groups of assignments from proposals, planning, to finalisation, reporting to the director/partner.

You'll manage and deliver new and / or complex assignments including designing appropriate responses to non-conventional terms of reference, writing tailored work programmes, and designing bespoke reporting formats. You'll also identify potential opportunities for obtaining new work and follow up leadership alongside day-to-day people management activities including fieldwork teams.

You'll also

  • Be accountable for overall contract and individual assignment deadline and time spent on assignments and keep in line with budget
  • Review and finalise a tailored plan for group of assignments under a contract based on an understanding of the terms of reference
  • Critically review findings and identify potential additional findings
  • Review and improve reports, audit programme and audit files
  • Provide expert guidance in an area of specialism
  • Maintain a deep understanding of International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) and be able to provide expert guidance
  • Develop an awareness of the services offered across the firm
  • Be risk aware and practice assurance procedures and ensure compliance
  • Demonstrate achievements in at least one formal internal responsibility in the following areas: learning & development, innovation and data, people & culture, clients & markets, strategic partnerships, quality & risk

You'll be someone with

  • Strong written English skills
  • A professional accountancy qualification (ACA / ACCA / DEC / CIMA or equivalent)
  • Demonstrable professional audit experience
  • A genuine interest in international development and working in a multi-cultural context
  • A detailed knowledge of public sector audit issues and techniques
  • A broad range of staff planning and supervision experience
  • An ability to communicate in a professional, constructive, and respectful manner
  • Experience of working or volunteering internationally
  • Understanding of public sector client structures and the legal and contractual frameworks in which donor assurance assignments are performed
