AIEF (Australian Indigenous Education Foundation) was established in 2008 in response to community demand from Indigenous families who choose to enrol their children in boarding schools.

Bringing together the government and private sector, AIEF provides scholarship funding for Indigenous students to complete Year 12 or tertiary studies, with career support to help them make a successful transition to employment.

AIEF has grown from one scholarship student in 2008, to now supporting over 1,000 young Indigenous Australians from over 400 communities from every state and territory across Australia.

Role responsibilities

You will report into the Finance Manager and work collaboratively in a small team. You will strive to contribute to a positive workplace culture and deliver on your wide range of accounting tasks with a strong sense of customer service.

  • Accounts Payables functions: readying invoices for payments, processing corporate credit cards through the expense management system, preparing scholarship distributions, ad hoc reporting and more
  • Accounts Receivables functions: Processing and invoicing donations, reconciliations, as well as ad hoc reporting and more
  • Supporting with Month end activities (preparing bank and General Ledger reconciliation as well as the BAS and PAYG return, variance analysis and maintenance of asset register and depreciation schedules)
  • Liaising with the outsourced payroll provider as needed
  • Assisting in documenting/updating processed and procedures as it relates to the finance functions
  • Replying to finance queries from internal stakeholders and following up on actions as needed

Essential Requirements

  • You will have initiative to learn and be able to work through problems in a logical manner
  • Finance qualifications or previous bookkeeping experience is a must have
  • Strong Excel skills and aptitude across the Microsoft Office suite
  • Positive attitude and a growth mindset when taking on feedback
  • All AIEF employees are required to undergo a National Criminal Record Check by the Australian Federal Police and a Working with Children Check by the relevant State and Territory Government(s) as a condition of employment.
