Our partner, an impactful INGO, seeks a Head of Finance to provide financial oversight, ensuring that the organisation is underpinned by strong internal controls, robust accounting & financial management systems and processes, and that it meets its compliance and obligations to regulators, the board of trustees & donors.

This role will be well-suited to an experienced finance professional, who will be willing to roll up his/her sleeves, at the same time as providing financial and strategic advisory support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial and strategic advisory support to the senior leadership team and the Board of Trustees, working with them in developing the organisation’s global strategy and business model, ensuring that these are underpinned by strong financial and operational analysis.
  • Support the CEO and Board of Trustees to embed strong governance practices in the UK and international offices.
  • Lead on the preparation of the annual budget, forecasts (annual and long-term) and ref-reforecasts; and lead on the preparation and maintenance of the cashflow forecast.
  • Review funding opportunities, lead on the preparation of budgets for donor proposals, and provide oversight on grants management, compliance and reporting.
  • Review the monthly management accounts, project and other reports.
  • Develop and strengthen the organisation’s financial systems and procedures, ensuring these meet the compliance and reporting requirements of Companies House, the Charities Commission.
  • Develop a strong internal and risk management framework.
  • Lead on preparing the consolidated annual accounts and the Annual Report, and managing the annual audit process.
  • Responsible for the quarterly VAT returns and annual Corporation Tax filing.
  • Ensure that the organisation has up to date policies, manuals and guidelines.
  • Line management of finance and admin staff.
  • Contract and office management responsibilities

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant with experience in leading the finance function of an international charity. Demonstrable experience of providing financial and compliance oversight, developing controls, processes and systems, management accounting & reporting, and preparing annual accounts.
  • Strong grants management experience, preferably experience of managing an organisation with a complex grants portfolio.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing strategic and financial advisory support, and working effectively with senior leadership and the Board of Trustees on organisational strategy.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and reporting skills.
  • Strong IT and systems skills; advanced MSExcel skills.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills.

This is a permanent role, with the individual expected to be office based at least 1 day/week. This is UK-based role, and any candidates will need to have the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship.
