Overview of the role:

The Head of Collections is responsible for building a team in multiple international geographies, setting collections strategy, establishing goals, monitoring production and managing personnel within Al-Futtaim Finance (AFF) Risk & Collections Department. The Head of Collections will have significant exposure to senior management and will be an active participant in the development of the operational strategy of the company.

What you will do:

  • Maintain effective credit and collections practices to minimize past-due payments and bad debt while adhering to all legal regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure efficient work flow in the processing and handling of delinquent accounts
  • Establish, measure and report on key performance metrics to assess departmental effectiveness and identify areas of weakness/opportunity
  • Partner with our Talent Acquisition team to recruit, hire and train new team members and manage staffing to ensure headcount levels are adequate to achieve outlined KPIs
  • Collaborate with senior leaders in Risk, Underwriting, Legal and Finance in the creation and execution of pre and post-charge off collections and recoveries strategies
  • Identify and recommend advancements to all collections/recovery specific platforms, systems and tools to support operational effectiveness, improve customer experience, and to remain at the forefront of technology in the collections space

Key Accountabilities:

Operational Process and Development

Provide thought leadership:

  • To Country Operations team for setting up Standard Operating Processes for Credit approval of IHF including
    • Process for managing the IHF credit processes
    • Defining the system control for IHF portfolio management
    • Define the payment processes including cheque management / branch payment processes for IHF receivables
    • Define customer service / data capturing and document retention policies and processes
  • Ensure the best practices are shared and enhanced between country teams,
  • Close working relationship with Country Finance and Automotive Finance team.

Collection Governance

  • Ensure collection processes are documented and implemented for Overseas entities (Oman, Qatar, KSA, East Africa, Sri lanka).
  • Standardised reporting of collection across Overseas entities (Oman, Qatar, KSA, East Africa, Sri lanka).
  • Ensure SOP creation for each country for Collections.
  • Support recruitment and training of the Collections team.
  • Identify and engaging the external collection agencies in Overseas entities (Oman, Qatar, KSA, East Africa, Sri lanka) to assign cases.
  • Collaborate with Group Legal (and local legal teams) during litigation and legal recovery process

IHF System Solution and Management

  • Support in modification of current IT system for efficient management of Collections, Repossession, Legal Resolution and Collateral
  • Oversee change management in country teams after the changes in IT system have rolled out.
  • Liaise with EIT and Country Team for commencing and implementing IT system changes

Associate Development & Bench Strength

  • Training – Ensure training of associates on the IHF processes across 7 countries with standardised SOPs
  • Support and manage productivity and staff retention & engagement in IHF
  • Support in Hiring and succession planning for key personnel

Required skills to be successful:

  • Domain expertise in Collections for Financial Services industry with good understanding of Auto Finance products and risk management processes
  • Well-developed planning, time management, and organizational skills
  • Understanding of Risk Governance and relevant market regulations in MENA region
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks during constantly fluctuating volumes

About The Team

The role will report to General Manager - Risk and manage a team of 20 collection executives across different locations. You will be working in a dynamic and busy environment wherein you will be dealing directly with both internal and external customers.

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in Banking / Financial Services with track record of leading and managing change
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Bilingual with fluency in both spoken & written Arabic & English
  • Ability to effectively plan and execute strategies
  • Proven ability to build partnerships and direct teams
  • Strong training, coaching, and motivational skills
