The primary location for this role will be Edinburgh (hybrid) but occasional travel to London will be required.

In a nutshell

As Treasury Back Office Manager, you will take responsibility for the management of the Treasury Back Office (TBO) operational activities for Sainsbury's Bank. Reporting to the Head of Treasury Operations, you will work closely with the Middle Office to support Front Office trading activity, ensuring settlement of all financial market transactions (e.g. cash, FX, derivatives and fixed income) are managed within a controlled framework. You will be responsible for managing the TBO team, including recruiting and developing staff to meet the increasing needs of the business.

What you'll be doing
  • Provide overview and management of daily cash processes including the daily cash position, intraday cashflow analysis and daily bank reconciliations
  • Work closely with the front office to support settlement and confirmation of trading activity
  • Manage and provide ongoing development to a small team of assistant managers and analysts
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliation & substantiation for Treasury products and corporate bank accounts, ensuring all Treasury transactions and cash movements are accurately reported to the Oracle General Ledger
  • Support the team with peak workflow and priorities to ensure that the broader team's objectives are met on a consistent and timely basis
  • Regularly review processes and controls, ensuring all back office operational risks are suitably monitored and managed under a strict controlled framework
  • Manage any risk events that occur ensuring full compliance with reporting, detailed understanding of root cause and implementation of appropriate corrective action
  • Responsible for quarterly testing of KCIs and supporting 2 nd level control testing and internal/external audits
  • Improve efficiency through automation and process enhancements
  • Manage and deliver change to back office processes resulting from projects, ensuring robust definition of requirements, risk and control assessments, testing and implementation
  • Provide effective cover for the Back Office Assistant Manager role
  • Deputise for the Head of Treasury Operations
What you need to know and show
  • Strong experience working in a Treasury Back Office role
  • Understanding of financial market products (e.g. cash, interest rate swaps, FX and fixed income)
  • Strong awareness and understanding of a control environment within a financial services organisation
  • Some accounting experience preferable
  • Some understanding of broader treasury roles including collateral management
  • Organised individual who can prioritise workload, work under pressure and deliver to strict deadlines
  • Strong excel skills and analytical skills and the ability to challenge and embed key processes
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work with and influence team members and third parties to drive through the required improvements to systems and processes
  • Some managerial experience
  • Technical experience in the following:
      • Treasury back office
      • Treasury Management systems (e.g. GTreasury)
      • Payments / SWIFT
      • Custodian settlements (e.g. CREST, EUROCLEAR)
      • Confirmation/matching platforms (e.g. Markitwire, FXAll)
