The role is responsible for directing the day-to-day financial operations of the company, and for core tasks such as management accounts, MI reporting, financial planning and oversight of year end. It provides a key link between finance and the rest of the business; partnering with senior managers to help understand the factors that will drive accurate reporting and performance.
An excellent people manager, managing a wider finance team of 4 staff, with the ability to lead, manage and motivate your reports.
Responsibilities
Lead the period end reporting process within the required timescales, focusing on the production of the management accounts, KPI reporting and management information.
Maintain and continue to develop a meaningful reporting suite to enable all levels of management to fully understand and monitor the financial performance of all areas of the business
Working closely with the Head of Finance and Budget holders to plan and deliver the annual budget, forecasts and mid-term plans in accordance with Group timelines.
Acting as a Business Partner maintaining and developing relationships with key stakeholders across the business, delivering insights into results to enable them to better understand and improve performance. Proactively engage in projects with these stakeholders that grow business value.
Working with the Financial Accountant to ensure a quality year end audit pack is delivered to the auditors at the end of the financial year, with minimal year-end adjustments.
Have strong organisation skills including identifying opportunities for business improvement identifying issues and implementing change.
Ensure compliance with the Arriva internal controls system, managing the activities of the Finance team to assist in the timely completion the annual self-assessment for the Finance Control Areas.
Drive forward process improvements and work efficiently, effectively and in line with best practice and accounting standards. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures with strong attention to detail.
Lead, manage and develop direct reports, challenging and motivating performance.
Qualifications
Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA) with post qualification experience
Excellent IT skills - MS Office (Teams, Outlook, Excel & Word) & SAP B1 accounting software
A full and valid driving licence
Ability to travel to all Depots if required
A proven track record in financial planning, analysis and reporting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
Practical experience working in a pressurised team environment with the ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritise effectively
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices
Have excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Ability to influence people effectively in other departments and organisations
Flexibility in managing a varying workload and a willingness to get the job done
Knowledge of accounting systems, SAP B1 desirable
