Our partner is a global charitable foundation with programmes spanning across different areas including education, health & nutrition, empowering agricultural communities and establishing sustainable livelihoods. They are seeking a Programmes Finance Manager to maintain robust systems and controls, and oversee the financial & programmes accounting, and grants compliance and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain robust systems, procedures and controls for the full grants cycle, ensure proper tracking of grants expenditure, and that internal budgets and grants financial reports are robust.
  • Develop and maintain tools to track all grants (active and pipeline), monitoring and flagging up any under- or over-spend in a timely manner.
  • Develop training materials on grants compliance, management and reporting.
  • Provide oversight on sub-grantee and partner grants financial management – reviewing budget proposals and undertaking due diligence assessments; reviewing donor sub-grantee agreements; designing and strengthening controls and processes around grants management and compliance; and reviewing grant reports.
  • Manage a monitoring schedule for sub-grantees/partners, and undertake audits, monitoring and training visits as required.
  • Undertake monthly analysis on budget versus actual spend, grants reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations, and cashflow forecasts.
  • Undertake analysis and prepare reports to support decision making within the organisation.
  • Support in the year-end audit, and lead on all the grant audit preparation, ensuring that recommendations are understood, implemented and adhered to.
  • Ensure that the organisation is compliant with all regulations and compliance.
  • Support the management of a risk register.
  • Managerial responsibility for programmes finance staff.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant with experience in designing financial systems, processes and controls; project accounting and reporting in an international charity.
  • Experience in full grants cycle management, including developing budgets on a full cost recovery basis, managing sub-grantees/partners, grants compliance & reporting, and grants audit.
  • Experience in working with institutional donors including the EU and FCDO is strongly desired.
  • Strong analysis and modelling skills.
  • Strong systems skills, and intermediate/advanced skills in MSExcel.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing staff, and supporting them in their career development.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, able to communicate complex financial concepts and information simply to finance and non-finance staff alike.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural international NGO.

As this is a managerial role, the individual is expected to be office-based in London at least 2 days/week. This role is only open to candidates with the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship.
