The University of Edinburgh is a world-leading research intensive University - our mission is to make the world a better place by addressing tomorrow's greatest global challenges. We need you to help us help the University make the world a better place! Our highly regarded Internal Audit team is growing and we need your help to provide assurance and insight across the University's risk profile. We are recruiting a Senior Internal Auditor who will have the opportunity to lead audits across a wide range of areas from major programmes to student experience, from innovation and research to digital strategy, from financial control to operational effectiveness. If you are motivated by variety, relationship-building, client service and driving risk and control improvement in a globally respected world-class organisation then we want to hear from you.

Working closely with the Head of Internal Audit, you will have the opportunity to develop and grow your skills and experience, leading diverse audits across the University and building relationships with senior colleagues across your own portfolio.

We offer a flexible and supportive working environment where colleagues have the opportunity to build trusted client relationships, use their initiative and experience to drive insight and improvement and enhance their own personal skills and knowledge. If the idea of working across the breadth of University operations with professional services and academic colleagues on exciting audit areas such as climate change, programme management, strategic planning and start-ups (to name just a few) appeals then we would love to hear from you.

Our team works together closely in developing and delivering our audit strategy and we place a strong emphasis on learning, training and skills development to ensure our team members can deliver value to the organisation and enhance their own personal development, skills and experience at the same time. We have a supportive and collegiate working environment where you will work closely with the Head of Internal Audit and other colleagues within the team to shape and influence our approach. You will bring your skills and experience to bear in helping to improve and develop risk, internal control and governance arrangements across the University.

Your skills and attributes for success

  • Solid Internal Audit experience gained in-house or with a Firm
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Ability to convey and assess complex issues verbally and in writing
  • Curiosity to understand the University and develop pragmatic control improvements
  • Motivated team player who can bring previous experience to bear in a new environment.
The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a passion for audit, risk and control and a genuine interest in working with client contacts across the University to improve and develop organisational processes, controls and outcomes. Strong inter-personal, communications and report-writing skills and the ability to express complex issues clearly and succinctly will be important attributes.

As such, we are looking for a candidate with a solid grounding of audit skills and experience to meet this varied and interesting role - someone with the ability and desire to apply their skills and experience in a new environment. This could be someone with several years of Internal Audit experience or a first move out of practice. The role will involve interaction and exposure across all areas of the University and engagement at middle and senior management levels.
