The opportunity

Our Alternative Funds Assurance practice is the market leader in providing assurance services to Alternative Funds and is one of the fastest growing areas of our financial services assurance practice. The rapid growth of our Alternative Funds Assurance practice means we have opportunities for professionals to join our team across EY office locations in Sydney and Melbourne on a flexible full-time basis.

As the recognised market leader in the Alternative Funds industry with multiple industry awards, our assurance team works with a significant portion of the leading Australian and Global Alternative Investment Managers. Our teams get to work with clients who are at the leading edge in offering new and innovative investment management products across an ever-growing range of asset classes including:

  • digital assets (crypto currencies, NFTs, etc)
  • ESG related trading strategies, including carbon credits
  • private equity
  • private credit
  • venture capital
  • equities and derivatives, and
  • fixed income


In your role, you will not only help our clients meet their reporting requirements by accurately reporting on financial statements, but also value start-ups and mature companies, perform operational due diligence reviews, map and test process and controls and a broader range of related services. In most interactions you will be expected to liaise with senior client personnel and will be encouraged to attend a number of industry events representing EY.

Your key responsibilities
  • Gaining an understanding of new investment asset classes and developing solutions for new products
  • Leading fieldwork, managing performance, coaching and mentoring more junior team members and keeping engagement leaders updated on audit engagements
  • Effectively project managing the audit with appropriate consideration of key risk issues
  • Engaging clients and providing advice and professionalism throughout transactions, including identification of areas for improvement in clients' business processes
  • Constantly developing your understanding of current market trends and processes and sharing your knowledge to develop junior colleagues
  • Understanding our clients' unique ambitions and needs and referring them to colleagues in other teams and areas to broaden our business relationships where possible


Skills and attributes for success

To qualify for the role you must have:
  • For Senior Associates you must have experience in leading audit field work
  • Experience in the Wealth & Asset Management industry and fund audits
  • A strong academic record, including a degree and progress towards/completion of CA ANZ or any CA ANZ affiliated qualification (or a willingness to undertake).
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach


Ideally, you'll also have:
  • An interest in the Alternative Funds industry
  • Expertise in accounting frameworks (IFRS, USGAAP) and in related financial reporting matters

Our preferred applicant will be required to undertake employment screening by EY or our external third-party provider. Regarding this role, the minimum salary for an Associate is $68,500 including superannuation and the minimum salary for a Senior Associate is $87,000 including superannuation.
