Role: Head of Treasury

Purpose of role: Responsible for developing and driving the strategic direction of the Treasury function with a team based in Dublin

Reports to: Working within the wider finance teams, reporting to the Director of Finance with strong links into ABF Group Treasury in London

Location: Dublin – hybrid working model

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Management, Hedging Strategy and FX management

  • Identification and management of financial risk; broad and pro-active thinking regarding risk in an increasingly volatile external environment.
  • Design and implementation of hedging strategies to mitigate financial risks, primarily, but not limited to, foreign currency cash flow exposure. This will include review of current hedging strategies, consideration of appropriateness of these for current and future strategy and development of robust recommendations.
  • Oversight of the management of foreign currency exposure for the Primark Group including the purchasing of foreign currency. This will include ensuring all documentation and accounting records comply with IAS39 and future standards, as well as back office tasks such as confirmation matching and EMIR.
  • Monitoring and managing the risk of currency fluctuations where loans, cash balances and or intercompany balances are denominated in a currency different to the operating currency of that entity.
  • Preparation of Board level cash and other risk management reporting.

Management of Treasury operations

  • Responsibility for the group’s cash and liquidity position, through management of the Loan portfolio of Primark and the European cash pool for the ABF group including all funding drawdowns/repayments.
  • Responsibility for the administration of Primark’s banking and payment platforms ensuring effective controls are in place. This includes ensuring the overall structure is scalable to support Primark’s expansion plans, as well as day to day management of the relationships with the group banks ensuring bank mandates are up to date, managing and negotiating charges and interest and setting up new banking relationships and accounts where necessary.
  • Actively identifying and leading in process improvement initiatives for treasury, finance and cross-functionally.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures. Develop and monitor treasury operational policies.

Implementation of new treasury systems

  • Analysis of tools relevant to Primark and the Treasury function that would enhance efficiency, effectiveness and/or control within the function. Ensure Primark’s systems are best in class and availing of all relevant technological advances in the treasury space, leading and driving change.

Team and working relationships

  • Lead and build a high performing team, with quality coaching and development.
  • Develop strong working relationships not only with the finance functions, but across the wider business; ensure treasury understands the commercial operations in order to manage risk and delivery quality service to Primark.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 12-15 years’ experience in Treasury.
  • Bachelors Degree, Accounting and / or Treasury Qualification
  • Experience of working in large multinational organisations.
  • Proven experience in all aspects of Treasury from front to back office, including understanding of accounting, finance and tax. Demonstrable evidence in your ability to manage the day-to-day activity of a Treasury division.
  • Experience of implementing Cash Management/Treasury systems an advantage.
