We are happy for you to be based in any of the above locations and we support remote working for most of the role requirements. Please note that travel to Edinburgh may be required on an occasional basis to support team developmental activities.

In a nutshell

The role will provide an excellent opportunity for a risk manager to lead, contribute and deliver at both an operational and strategic level within the Internal Control Assurance Team (ICAT).

As a Control Assurance Manager, you will be leading the delivery of targeted assurance activity, while shaping the focus of the second line Assurance proposition. This will involve the re-design and implementation of both strategic and operational activities.

Team management and development activities will also be undertaken.

What you'll be doing
  • Responsible for supporting delivery of the annual assurance plan to a high standard through guiding Internal Control Assurance (ICA) colleagues through the key stages of the assurance reviews to deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Supporting the design of an effective and efficient 2nd Line control assurance proposition to optimise value from assurance work and testing undertaken. Play a lead role in the targeted project workstreams to deliver this.
  • Leading the delivery of the annual internal control assurance plan to meet mandatory testing requirements and deliver targeted and thematic reviews.
  • Supporting the development of the ICA team to increase skills and knowledge, while supporting the continued enhancement of deliverables.
  • Assisting in the design and delivery of improved Management Information (MI) and reporting. to support management with their decision making on risk and control related matters.
  • Working with key stakeholders to ensure assurance activities are focused on core risk areas and acting as a key point of contact and SME. Supporting the business in the design of efficient control processes that provide balanced solutions and demonstrate consistent best practice.
  • Assessing more innovative ways of working - including increased automation for control assurance activities and implementing industry best practice.

What you need to know and show
  • Sound knowledge of operational risk frameworks and preferably a good knowledge of financial services.
  • Strong experience in risk identification and assessment techniques.
  • Awareness of best practice/effective control environments within a financial services organisation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven speaking, presentation and facilitation experience within workshops and governance forums.
  • Ability to facilitate change with strong influencing skills.
