Department / Team Overview
The team is responsible for providing reporting and associated Fund Accounting services to clients in respect of collective investment vehicles. The primary services provided are:-
- Statutory Financial Reporting
- Distributions
- Taxation
The team consists of Approximately 50 staff and manages several large client relationships circa 600 OEIC, Unit Trusts, Investment Trusts and equivalent Funds.
The team is based in the BNY Mellon office in Manchester.
Overall responsibility:
The job holder is responsible for the delivery of statutory and regulatory financial reporting requirements for client’s collective investment vehicles including the calculation of distribution rates and taxation amounts. The role involves review activities encompassing the supervision of Fund Accountants, Supervisors, Assistant Managers and staff management aspects.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Manage a Financial Reporting team (c 5 to 11 staff) ensuring appropriate staffing with skills in place, to deliver required Financial Reporting services to designated clients. Plan and organise assistant manager activities (and fund accountants/supervisors as required).
- Monitor team performance, conducting appraisals and managing required recruitment for team and ensure appropriate training and development.
- Plan, organise and monitor the production of accounts and subsidiary information for collective investment vehicles.
- Maintain and provide regular management information on relevant aspects of team and team deliverables
- Review and sign-off of accounts files, distribution information, proof reports and other associated calculations and information
- Ensure effective and cooperative liaison with external parties relevant to team deliverables
- Ensure effective liaison with other internal teams
- Participate and contribute to ongoing development of Financial Reporting structures, processes and controls. Represent Financial Reporting department on ad-hoc projects and specific tasks as required
- Where appropriate or required deputise for the Group Manager, provide cover for team deliverables and support other Financial Reporting teams
- Other project work and ad-hoc tasks as required

Technical Skills, Knowledge, Systems Knowledge (and associated skill level)
- Significant experience of managing small/medium sized teams of professional staff
- Strong accounting knowledge covering relevant accounting standards and regulations including UK GAAP and the IA SORP
- Sound knowledge and experience of Taxation requirements for OEIC / Unit Trust or equivalent vehicles
- Excellent computer skills, in particular Excel.
Academic/Professional Qualifications (or equivalent qualifiers)
- Graduate calibre with a professional accounting qualification, preferable ACA / ACCA / CIMA
