Totally Local Company have a great opportunity to join our established Finance department on a 12 month fixed term contract.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, ambitious Cost Centre Accountant, reporting to, and supported by, the Financial Controller. The key focus of this role will be to drive the quality of reporting and to support non-financial business managers in their dedicated service areas.

Our finance team provides an efficient, supportive and pro-active financial and management accounting service to the business, as it improves its service to existing customers and new customers alike.

The current Finance team comprises the Finance Director, Financial Controller and seven further team members, including four cost centre accountants.

What we are looking for in this role

A key challenge of this role will be to lead on core areas and responsibilities of the finance team together with supporting and deputising for the Financial Controller together with developing KPI packs, commercial models and developing strong working relationships with the operational leads.
  • Produce high quality financial information and reports for a dedicated group of cost centres to a high standard.
  • Deliver timely and efficient cost centre reporting and reconciliations of all required Balance Sheet Accounts.
  • Lead on task and projects delegated by the Financial Controller which may include process and procedural improvements, improved KPI reporting and business partnering, together with delivering a strong financial presence and solution-based approach to any continuous lean and performance improvement projects tailored towards specific operational cost centres.
  • Provide analysis, commentary and guidance on the monthly financial performance of each cost centre under your control.
  • Support operational Business Managers with timely preparation of management accounts, accountability reports and cost centre reports, including written commentary
  • Assist the Financial Controller and Finance Director to drive the performance of the business via regular performance meetings and cost centre reviews
  • Assist the Financial Controller and Finance Director with the preparation of the annual budget, periodic re-forecasts and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Assist and support the Financial Controller and Finance Director with analysis, systems and reports to underpin the strategic development of the business.
  • Act as an ambassador for finance within the business and also with external parties.
  • Assist the Financial Controller to develop the changing culture within the finance team and support the Financial Controller and Finance Director in developing a supportive, multi-disciplinary approach to decision-making and customer service.
  • Assist the Financial Controller to deliver the year-end process and annual financial audit, including working with both internal and external auditors
  • Assist with the collection of debts in line with the credit control policy, to ensure that debtors are minimised and cash-flow is maximised.
  • Support the Financial Controller and Finance Director with maintaining tight systems of financial control across the business


What key attributes we are looking for
  • Enthusiastic approach
  • ACCA/CIMA/ICAS part qualified studier desirable but not essential
  • Strong analytical approach with experience of preparing and presenting financial information, delivering key year end and audit tasks
  • Able to work independently where required - would suit a self-starter
  • A team-player who will work well with others both in the Finance function and in the wider company
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong technical and commercial skills to provide a balanced view on operational and commercial issues and opportunities.
