Finance Manager - Tech Finance

Make a valuable, visible difference. In this Finance Management role you'll partner with Sainsbury's Tech - one of the fastest-moving, data-hungry technology businesses in the UK. We've the entreprenuerial, exploratory and fast paced mindset of a start-up, driving innovation within a FTSE100 company whose products are used by more than 70% of the UK population.

You'll be a vital business partner to our technology team who are bringing digital, technology and data together like never before to create amazing systems and technologies.

You'll share an impact on anything from the way we run our stores to faster deliveries and innovative contactless check-out technology.

What you'll be doing

Part of the Technology Finance team, your role is to provide insight and analysis to tech team stakeholders, helping to influence and drive actions across both capex and Opex. Effectively, you're managing the departmental budget. You'll work collaboratively with your tech colleagues, creating forecasts, analysing performance and challenging decisions.

Yes, success depends on delivering strong, accurate analysis, on time against financial targets but it's not a back office, number-crunching role. You'll be judged on stakeholder feedback so it's just as important that you can cultivate strong relationships with your colleagues in the tech team and work collaboratively to translate financial data into commercial insight.

Who you are

This is one of the most forward-facing areas of the business you can partner with, with dramatic changes of pace. If you're excited by the speed and direction of technological progress, you'll thrive here. Your experience of process and change management will ensure you can manage the pressure.

Beyond that, you're a professionally qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) with impressive P&L experience and a firm understanding of capitalization principles and, of course, strong Excel and numerical skills.

Personally, you'll need to be an effective communicator, influencer and challenger - someone who can proactively spot areas where your financial acumen can make a difference. People management experience would be ideal - you'll need to convince us you can prioritise and push back where necessary and that you're enthusiastic about bringing out the best in junior colleagues.

How you can develop

We offer an environment where everyone can thrive - somewhere over 185,000 colleagues can become the best versions of themselves. To help you develop (and keep pace with the tech team) you'll have access to CPD and on-the-job-training (both online and in person), plus ad hoc support from a Senior Finance Manager and the wider Technology Finance Leadership team. You'll find plenty of future opportunities across the finance team - and you'll have a FTSE-100 business on your CV.

What we'll give you

Alongside a market-leading rate of pay, we also offer a great range of benefits for all our colleagues, including:
  • Discounts of 10-15% on Sainsbury's, Tu, Argos and Habitat products.
  • Bonus of up to 20% of base salary
  • Generous holiday entitlement, maternity and paternity leave.
  • Pension - we'll match 4-7% of your pension contributions.
  • Sainsbury's share scheme - build up an investment at discounted prices.
  • Wellbeing support - access to emotional support, counselling, legal and financial advice.
  • Colleague networks - link with like-minded people to help fulfil your potential.
  • Cycle to Work scheme - hire a new bike and cycling equipment, whilst saving on tax and NI.
  • Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more.

Work-life balance is important to us, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. We trust them to decide how, where and when they work, combining remote and collaborative working with a flexible approach to hours, giving them plenty of time and space for life outside of work whilst delivering against our business goals.
